Area Manager

Location: Northern Sweden
Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract - Residential
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8 hour days

Key Responsibilities

  • EHSS:
    • Embed a strong safety culture, with "zero harm" focus.
    • Ensure open reporting of hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices to continuously improve safety performance.
    • Ensure compliance with local and international HSE regulations and industry best practices.
  • Scope and Quality:
    • End-to-end delivery of the Area, including scope/quality, timeframe, and budget.
    • In collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Managers, define and coordinate the work packages in Area scope, clarify interfaces, partners, and resources.
    • Own Area procurement strategy, ensuring procurement approach aligns with Area goals for cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Budget & Schedule:
    • Own Area budget: monitor spend vs budget within Area scope.
    • Approve requests to re-allocate resources within and between work packages (using Area reserve).
    • Own overall schedule at Area level, prioritize across packages and remove external constraints in 6 weeks-6 months Look Ahead.
  • Performance and Reporting:
    • Review and validate progress reports, including key metrics (earned value, productivity, safety incidents).
    • Validate the project controls team updates for schedule and cost tracking.
    • Role model of desired behaviours and ways of working.
    • Escalate and address area level project risks, resource constraints, or design changes that affect cost/schedule at area level.
  • Cross Functional Coordination & External Relationships:
    • Contact for day-to-day management of the Area.
    • Own critical contracts and partnerships that span functions within the Area ensuring timely execution of scopes.
    • Facilitate sharing of lessons learned, tools, and information among Project Managers and with other Areas.
    • Coordinate with adjacent Area Managers to manage tie-ins, handovers, and shared services/utilities.
  • People and Talent Management:
    • Lead and mentor team to drive high-performance project execution.
    • Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, accountability, problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience, with at least 10 years managing multi-phase, multi-million-Euro projects in green energy, Oil & Gas, semiconductor, automotive, mining & metal, battery manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of project management, construction management, engineering design, quality control, and commissioning processes.
  • Proficient in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies as applied to construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction materials, logistics for remote sites, and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage schedules (Primavera P6), cost estimates, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven skills in managing cross-functional teams and leading multi-disciplinary project teams. Experience working on an owner's team is a plus.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with a proven ability to lead multicultural, cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office 365, MS Project, Power BI, AutoCAD, and other relevant construction/project management tools.
  • Capable of delivering high-quality presentations and reports to executive stakeholders and board-level audiences.
