Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support, prepare and review contracts, ensure governance, risk, and compliance frameworks are in place, and assist with dispute resolution and compliance matters to safeguard the company's legal position and ensure adherence to regulations, policies, and agreements.
- Offer legal support across various functions, including field operations, drilling, major projects, marine, insurance, and finance.
- Deliver definitive legal advice, opinions, and interpretations required in the preparation and negotiation of various oil and gas services contracts, such as Drilling Services Contracts, Well Services Contracts, Aircraft Contracts, Marine Services Agreements (including Charterparties), Master Services Agreements, construction-related contracts (e.g. FEED Contracts, EPCIC Contracts, Construction Major Contracts), General Services Contracts, Professional or Consultancy Services, IT, insurance policies, Technology Agreements, Guarantee Agreements, and Special Tender Agreements.
- Draft and amend the company's suite of template contracts in collaboration with the Contracts & Procurement department and external counsel as needed.
- Support the formulation and recommendation of policies, objectives, and strategies relating to legal and governance matters.
- Supervise, manage, and instruct outside counsel or law firms on specialized matters, including financing, to ensure optimal utilization of external counsel.
- Act as the legal focal point for industry-wide arrangements for mutual aid, cost sharing, and joint operations with shareholders and external stakeholders in Qatar.
- Provide advice to top management when required.
- Apply advanced general or practical specialist knowledge of legal areas relevant to the organization, translating legal expertise into practical advice for the business.
- Assist in the decision-making process and effectively present the company's position to third parties, influencing significant legal matters.
- Identify prospective legal risks and formulate strategies to achieve business objectives at appropriate risk, acting as a trusted advisor to clients up to senior executive level.
- Provide legal advice in own legal area of responsibility independently and provide guidance to colleagues and support staff.
- Assist in the engagement of outside counsel, participate in setting case strategy and direction, and monitor activities performed by outside counsel.
- Play a significant role in material files, providing strategic input and often serving as lead advisor or key decision-maker.
- Provide input into internal legal strategy, assist in the coordination of external stakeholders, and actively manage key client relationships, providing strategic legal advisory.
- Maintain oversight of significant legal documentation and records, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement through ethical conduct, trust, and respect. Communicate clearly, embrace delegated responsibilities, and take ownership to deliver high-quality, cost-conscious results with integrity and technical excellence.
- Support knowledge sharing, collaborate with local national employees, and participate in initiatives that promote their growth and integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in law.
- Holding a current practicing certificate in a civil or common law jurisdiction.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in legal roles.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry, including upstream operations, is an advantage.
