Job Purpose

Forecast cash needs, secure treasury approvals, prioritize invoice payments, and process various transactions, delegating data tasks to junior staff as needed. Continuously review and reconcile accounts, maintain detailed records, and address discrepancies to ensure compliance with fiscal policies and ledger accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Management - Accounts Payable
    • Forecast cash requirements and secure consent from treasury prior to processing payments.
    • Prioritize invoices to optimize cash discounts and adhere to payment terms.
    • Prepare and review regular updates for creditor control accounts to ensure alignment with the general ledger.
    • Coordinate with treasury for timely management of loans, interest payments, and swaps.
    • Process payments including advance payments, employee reimbursements, supplier payments via direct bank transfers, and wire transfers.
    • Match invoices to purchase orders, verifying quantities received and accepted before payment.
    • Handle vendor payments on their due dates and manage credit card bills post-management approval.
    • Reconcile payments and pre-payments, vendor statements, ensuring discrepancies are researched and corrected.
    • Monitor accounts to confirm payments are up-to-date and perform regular analysis of supplier accounts.
    • Review accrued expense lists regularly for verification against the general ledger.
    • Resolve invoice discrepancies and follow up on long-pending payments to clear them.
    • Maintain vendor and accounts payable related files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in compliance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Strategic Contribution
    • Ensure effective cascading of the divisional strategy into sectional business plans to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing strategies.
  • People Management
    • Manage the effective achievement of assigned objectives through the leadership of the assigned section by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff to maximise sectional performance.
    • Lead the talent development initiatives for the assigned section, collaborating with technical/discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements.
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning
    • Manage the preparation and recommend the sectional budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget while ensuring all sectional activities are conducted in line with the approved guidelines.
  • Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
    • Develop and lead the implementation of department policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of assigned function so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Lead the management of change through continuous improvement of department systems, processes and practices, taking into account global standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.
  • Reporting
    • Ensure that all department reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet organizational requirements, policies and quality standards.

Context, Work Environment & Decision Making Authority

  • Key decisions having a significant impact on the General Accounting department are referred to the General Accounting Manager for approval before implementation.
  • The job holder exercises financial authority as per the level established by the board and stipulated in the authority matrix.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business from a reputable university is required, with an MBA being an advantageous option for candidates.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 10 years of experience in similar roles in large companies, of which at least 4 years are in positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities, demonstrating a strong need for effective leadership skills.
  • Job-Specific Skills (Generic / Technical):
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and analytical thinking skills.
    • Solid people management skills.
    • Good understanding of the power/energy and water sectors, emerging trends, technologies and key players.
    • Proficiency in English (must) and Arabic (plus).
