Job Purpose
Perform accounting operations, including routine account reconciliations, thorough transaction verifications, and detailed accounting analysis to ensure data integrity, identify trends, evaluate performance, and improve accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities

Accounting Management
- Plan and conduct routine account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
- Design accounting analysis frameworks to identify trends and assess organizational financial health, supporting strategic planning.
- Execute thorough verification of financial transactions and documents to uphold data integrity.
- Manage the accurate and timely execution of accounting processes such as general ledger entries and account settlements.
- Ensure accounting handling and reporting compliance with international / national accounting standards and guidelines as applicable.
- Regularly review financial data and transaction records to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting policies and practices, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring alignment with overall business strategies.
- Resolve any discrepancies or issues in financial records swiftly, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Adjust accounting practices based on performance metrics and audit feedback to continuously refine accounting operations.
- Liaise with other positions, including the heads of financial accounts, group consolidation, general ledger, and accounts payment, to enhance financial information flow and inter-departmental collaboration.

Strategic Contribution
Ensure effective cascading of the divisional strategy into sectional business plans to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing strategies. -
People Management
- Manage the effective achievement of assigned objectives through the leadership of the assigned section by setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff to maximise sectional performance.
- Lead talent development initiatives for the assigned section, collaborating with technical/discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements.

Budgeting and Financial Planning
Manage the preparation and recommend the sectional budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget while ensuring all sectional activities are conducted in line with the approved guidelines. -
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
Develop and lead the implementation of department policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of the assigned function so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner. -
Continuous Improvement
Lead the management of change through continuous improvement of department systems, processes and practices, taking into account global standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans. -
Reporting
Ensure that all department reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet internal requirements, policies and quality standards.
Communications & Working Relationships
- Internal: Chief Finance & Planning Officer, General Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant Group Coordination, Financial Accounts Expert, Accountant - GL, Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable, function heads across the organisation, relevant committees.
- External: Regulatory Bodies & Government, Internal and External Auditors.
Context, Work Environment & Decision-Making Authority
- Key decisions having a significant impact on the General Accounting department are referred to the General Accounting Manager for approval before implementation.
- The job holder exercises financial authority as per the level established by the company board and stipulated in the authority matrix.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business from a reputable university is required. An MBA is advantageous.
- Minimum Experience: 5-7 years of experience in similar roles in large companies. Experience with financial reporting, general ledger, reconciliations, budgeting support, ERP systems, and IFRS is preferred.
