Field Coordinator

Job Purpose

This position is safety critical, involving supervision and coordination at all sites, which is crucial to overall project success. The Field Coordinator maintains control of contractor work activities during normal work hours, weekends, and off hours. Close supervision of all site activities supports safety objectives and ensures quality workmanship, helping to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all assigned project execution is in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Support construction engineers in following training requirements for contractor staff and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in conducting safety audits to monitor contractor compliance.
  • Report all safety incidents, including injuries, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in and comply with behavioral safety observation processes.
  • Be conversant with typical industrial safety policies and life-critical procedures, such as lock out/tag out, confined space entry, and permit to work.
  • Ensure contractor work crews understand emergency response procedures, assembly points, wind direction, and evacuation routes.
  • Act as the dedicated site representative for assigned projects.
  • Work in challenging environments (approximately 70% on-site, 30% office activity).
  • Familiarize with detailed construction scope, schedule, and sequence.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, departments, and contractors during project execution.
  • Assist and provide work direction to contractor supervisors in executing projects.
  • Review design drawings, method statements, facilitate job safety analyses, and review critical lift plans for safe execution.
  • Ensure timely issuance of work permits and support contractors in preparing necessary documentation.
  • Address day-to-day construction issues promptly.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Support construction engineers in preparing daily progress reports for assigned projects.
  • Monitor changing field conditions and suggest corrective actions using sound judgment.
  • Monitor overall project progress and report any delays or execution problems.
  • Participate and lead pre-commissioning, punch listing, and support successful project commissioning.
  • Maintain records for contractor resources and perform frequent audits.
  • Participate in planning meetings as required.
  • Provide input to construction engineers regarding changes in project design and scope.
  • Facilitate inspection of incoming project materials and handover to contractors.
  • Support project/construction engineers in maintaining project folders and during technical closeout and handover to end users.
  • Ensure contractors understand heat index and compliance with work/rest cycles and mitigations.
  • May be required to issue permits after necessary training and approval from the safety department.
  • Coordinate with environmental sections and contractors for waste removal as per scope of work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, I&E Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, I&E Engineering, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in oil and gas and petrochemical industry plant construction, with at least 5 years in construction of projects. Brownfield experience is essential.
  • Computer skills: proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of MS Project is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in English (oral, written, reading, and listening).
  • Willingness to relocate to Qatar (with family if married).
  • Ability to work between site office and plant environments, including outdoor work under inclement conditions.
  • Experience working with a multi-cultural workforce.
  • Strong teamwork and team-building skills.
  • Proven capability of working with peers from technical, production, maintenance, and HSE backgrounds.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including listening, conflict resolution, personal training, and performance management.
