Drilling Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Company Representative for Safety and Environment on site
  • Be accountable for all operational aspects of the operation 24 hours a day
  • Ensure that everyone on site understands to STOP the operation when a risk situation occurs or is perceived
  • Ensure that all Company and Contractor Safety Rules and HSEQ regulations are followed and implemented
  • Report and investigate near-misses, injurious incidents, and spills
  • Issue 7-day logistics/materials/services plans, ensuring they are updated and include all requirements for programmed drilling operations and contingencies
  • Call out service companies and equipment in good time
  • Issue Daily Drilling Instructions in accordance with the Drilling Program and planned operations
  • Lead rig inspections to verify equipment compliance with required standards, preventive maintenance, and sufficient spare parts
  • Check casing, wellhead, and well control equipment for certification, fitness for purpose, and testing
  • Check that well control procedures are understood and exercised
  • Lead Well Control operations
  • Ensure well control equipment is operational, certified, pressure and function tested
  • Monitor actual versus planned time and cost
  • Carry out flow checks as required
  • Maintain trip sheets for in and out of the hole
  • Report drilling problems to supervisor and agree on way ahead
  • Program and monitor drilling parameters
  • Ensure proper disposal of cuttings, mud, and waste
  • Ensure adequate mud, chemical, LCM, and cement stocks
  • Assist drilling engineers with tracking drilling performance and recording actual time per operational step and any non-productive time
  • Coordinate reporting of all service companies
  • Review daily job tickets and sign off once correct
  • Chair morning and afternoon meetings between all contractors on site to coordinate operations
  • Chair morning and afternoon calls with office-based drilling team
  • Prepare, check, and send all drilling and services reports to office

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering preferred, with minimum 12 years drilling experience
  • Steady promotion with drilling contractor preferred (Derrickman, Driller, Nightpusher, Rig Manager)
  • At least 5 years of drilling experience in a Drilling Supervisor position
  • Extensive experience in land drilling operations in MENA; Oman experience preferred
  • Good understanding of HSE systems and the critical role of the Drilling Supervisor in safety at the rig site
  • IWCF Level 4 Well Control Certificate (or equivalent) required
  • Experience with cost control
  • Good understanding of Emergency Response and the critical role of the Drilling Supervisor in emergency situations
  • Proficiency in English for speaking, reading, and writing
  • Strong report writing skills
