Direct Contract (Contract basis for the duration of the dredging campaign; a few months, subject to extension. Rotation and site logistics based on project location within Indonesia.)

Role Purpose

The Client Representative will act as the on-site liaison between the client and the dredging contractor, ensuring the dredging works are executed in accordance with contract specifications, HSE standards, and project schedule. The role safeguards the client's interests throughout the campaign, providing independent oversight, verification, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the client's interests on-site during all phases of the dredging campaign
  • Monitor contractor compliance with the scope of work, technical specifications, and contractual obligations
  • Witness and verify dredging progress, production rates, survey data, and volume calculations
  • Review and endorse daily/weekly progress reports, survey results, and dredging logs
  • Liaise with the dredging contractor's site management on technical, schedule, and quality matters
  • Monitor and report on HSE compliance, incidents, and near-misses; enforce stop-work authority where required
  • Coordinate with hydrographic surveyors to verify pre-dredge, progress, and post-dredge survey data
  • Review environmental monitoring compliance (turbidity, sediment plume, disposal area compliance) per permit conditions
  • Attend and contribute to progress meetings, coordination meetings, and client update calls
  • Prepare independent daily/weekly/monthly reports for the client, flagging deviations, delays, or disputes
  • Support variation order (VO) assessment, claims review, and contractual correspondence
  • Escalate technical, schedule, or commercial issues to client management promptly
  • Ensure proper documentation and close-out records are maintained for the campaign

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree/diploma in Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrographic Surveying, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Minimum 10-15 years' experience in dredging, marine construction, or port/coastal engineering projects
  • 5 years prior experience as a Client Representative, Owner's Engineer, or Marine Superintendent on dredging projects strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with dredging methods (TSHD, CSD, backhoe, etc.), survey techniques, and production monitoring
  • Working knowledge of relevant Indonesian marine/environmental permitting requirements is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of dredging contracts (FIDIC or similar) and claims/variation processes
  • Fluent English (spoken and written); Bahasa Indonesia an advantage
  • Willingness to be based on-site/vessel in Indonesia for the project duration, including offshore/marine rotations as required
