Job Brief

The Construction Manager will oversee the coordination, management, and supervision of site construction activities for an international green steel project. The role ensures all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in line with approved schedules, technical requirements, and quality standards. Serving as a key interface among the employer, engineering teams, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and various disciplines, you will drive project progress through installation, inspection, testing, and mechanical completion, as well as resolve construction constraints and ensure successful project handover to the commissioning team. This is a highly site-focused role requiring robust contractor management, multidisciplinary coordination, and a solid background in delivering major industrial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all discipline-related construction activities with the employer and key stakeholders.
  • Manage discipline interfaces with works contractors and adjacent facilities to ensure safe, efficient execution.
  • Lead and manage all construction activities to meet project objectives up to mechanical completion.
  • Implement and adhere to quality control procedures recommended by the Project QA/QC Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and social procedures as advised by the Project HSE Manager.
  • Enforce environmental procedures recommended by the Project HSE Manager within the project scope.
  • Review construction schedules, progress, productivity, and costs; develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for timely completion and readiness for mechanical completion.
  • Monitor and manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with contractual, technical, quality, and safety standards.
  • Ensure works are completed, inspected, tested, documented, and handed over according to project and mechanical completion procedures.
  • Support preparation and handover of construction records, quality dossiers, as-built, and mechanical completion documentation to the commissioning team.
  • Assist in resolving construction issues, technical queries, and interface matters through mechanical completion and formal handover.

Requirements

  • Experience in construction management, site management, or senior construction supervision on major industrial projects.
  • Proven track record in managing contractors and subcontractors in large-scale construction environments.
  • Experience delivering projects through construction, mechanical completion, and handover phases.
  • Background in major industrial, process plant, steel, mining, energy, petrochemical, oil & gas, power, or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of multidisciplinary construction interfaces including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation works.
  • Strong knowledge of construction planning, sequencing, progress monitoring, and contractor performance management.
  • Experience with construction schedule review and identification of delays, constraints, and required recoveries.
  • Understanding of QA/QC, HSE, inspection, testing, punch-listing, and mechanical completion processes.
  • Ability to coordinate among the employer, EPC/works contractors, engineering teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, especially in a multidisciplinary and multicultural project organization.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience with owner's engineer, PMC, EPCM, or engineering consultancy environments.
  • Background in major greenfield industrial developments with multiple active construction contractors.
  • Experience working on construction projects in Sweden, Scandinavia, or Europe is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with steelmaking, process plants, or green steel developments is a significant asset.
