We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to support the testing, commissioning, and energization of commercial and distributed generation solar PV projects. The Commissioning Technician will work closely with Commissioning Managers, Electrical Contractors, and Project Teams to ensure all electrical systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and manufacturer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning activities for commercial and distributed generation solar PV installations.
  • Perform electrical testing, inspections, troubleshooting, and system verification prior to energization.
  • Conduct testing on inverters, transformers, switchgear, combiner boxes, and other electrical equipment.
  • Assist with pre-commissioning inspections, equipment startup, and functional performance testing.
  • Perform insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, voltage verification, and other electrical checks.
  • Identify, document, and troubleshoot electrical deficiencies during commissioning.
  • Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and commissioning procedures.
  • Coordinate with electrical subcontractors, commissioning engineers, and site management to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Support utility interconnection testing and system energization activities.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning records, testing reports, and punch lists.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience working on commercial, industrial, or utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Experience using electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and clamp meters.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and NFPA 70E.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in the field.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience commissioning distributed generation solar projects (1-20 MW).
  • Experience with inverter manufacturers such as SMA, Sungrow, Power Electronics, or similar.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, monitoring systems, and communications troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting medium-voltage electrical equipment and utility interconnections.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Electrical trade background or relevant technical certification.
  • Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is a plus.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has a strong electrical background with hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting solar PV systems. They should be comfortable working in the field, supporting energization activities, and resolving electrical issues without constant supervision. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience commissioning distributed generation solar projects, particularly those familiar with inverter startup, electrical testing, and utility interconnection procedures.
