SPS In-Country Operation Leader

Location: Paramaribo, Suriname
Contract Type: Contract Position (Annually Renewable)

Work Style: Resident, with potential offshore missions onboard installation vessels and/or a drillship

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the in-country readiness of SPS equipment, including Christmas trees, wellhead systems, tools, flying leads, subsea distribution systems, manifolds, and other subsea structures.
  • Liaise with Drilling and Completion, SURF, Field Operations, and other teams to support safe and effective execution of offshore drilling, installation, and testing campaigns.
  • Act as the in-country focal point for the SPS operational perimeter, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and cost-effective activities.
  • Monitor the progress and performance of in-country SPS contractors and subcontractors to ensure the offshore sequence progresses to schedule and complies with project specifications and procedures.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to H3SE Policy, comply with statutory and industry standards, and actively support safety-awareness initiatives.
  • Adopt exemplary H3SE behaviour, implement H3SE rules, and comply with training requirements for the position.
  • Demonstrate exemplary conduct regarding ethics and the Code of Conduct, and promote and enforce the applicable Anti-Corruption Programme.
  • Coordinate and plan SPS personnel, equipment, and logistics required to support the drillship and subsea installation vessels involved in offshore activities.
  • Coordinate call-off orders under the Life of Field contract for offshore drilling, SURF, and Field Operations activities, as well as onshore preservation, testing, and repair work.
  • Maintain effective communication throughout the project organisation and with the SPS contractor to escalate and resolve operational difficulties promptly.
  • Lead the arbitration of priorities within the SPS perimeter in collaboration with the contractor and relevant project counterparts.
  • Represent the organisation positively at SPS contractor premises, worksites, and vessels during offshore construction when required.
  • Develop effective and constructive relationships with SPS contractor representatives and the wider project organisation.
  • Ensure employees and contracted personnel under the role's responsibility are properly supervised and trained in site regulations, systems of work, and emergency actions.
  • Monitor SPS contractor performance against Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Supply requirements, in-country activities, and Life of Field services, and provide reporting on performance variations.
  • Monitor consolidation and consumption of the Life of Field services budget.
  • Lead resolution of SPS technical and QC issues with contractors, the SPS Technical Manager, discipline specialists, and other project packages.
  • Lead or participate in weekly and monthly operational meetings with contractors and other project packages.
  • Support implementation of operational-coordination tools, including Permit to Work and Risk Assessment processes, FDL, SIMOPS, Synergi, and REX.
  • Review and approve, where appropriate, SPS specifications, requisitions, technical documentation, method statements, task plans, and procedures relating to operations, testing, and preservation.
  • Support preparation of pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Seek opportunities to develop technical capability and share knowledge across the organisation.

Context & Environment

This role supports the development of a major offshore project in Suriname Block 58, expected to develop approximately 700 million barrels of resources, with FPSO production planned to begin in 2028. The multidisciplinary project team is focused on optimising reserves, schedule, and cost, reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, and maintaining high technical-quality and H3SE standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant technical discipline, ideally supported by previous offshore construction and commissioning experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • General knowledge of exploration and production specifications, together with subsea design and operational codes and standards.
  • Approximately 15 years of professional experience, including at least 10 years within a project environment.
  • Ability to represent the organisation internally and externally at senior level.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and accept significant responsibilities, including safety and security.
  • Ability to respond quickly and decisively to changing demands and circumstances, and to identify, analyse, and resolve problems within the role's scope.
  • Strong communication, influencing, organisational, and leadership skills, with high motivation and the ability to work in a complex multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of marine operations involving Remotely Operated Vehicles.
  • Experience in offshore installation supervision and onshore and offshore lifting operations.
  • Fluent English is required; French language capability is desirable.
  • Previous SPS experience on similar projects is expected.
  • Valid RSES training is required (a training plan will be developed according to the successful candidate's previous experience and the project Training Matrix).
  • Valid offshore medical and BOSIET/MIST or CBSP/HUET are required; OPERCOM/ICAPS or equivalent experience is desirable.
