JOB TITLE: SENIOR WELL SITE GEOLOGIST
LOCATION: OFFSHORE NAMIBIA (RIG-BASED) WITH OCCASIONAL ONSHORE SUPPORT - WINDHOEK / LUDERITZ / WALVIS BAY
ASSIGNMENT TYPE: CONTRACT
CONTRACT LENGTH & TYPE: 12 MONTHS (ROTATIONAL - 4x4 WEEKS)

JOB DIMENSIONS
The Senior Well Site Geologist is responsible for delivering real-time geological interpretation and operational support during drilling operations offshore Namibia, ensuring safe and optimized well execution.

The role includes:
- Ensuring full compliance with Company Code of Conduct and HSE policies
- Acting as the primary geological authority on the rig
- Providing real-time geological monitoring and interpretation integrated with drilling operations
- Supervising service companies within the geoscience scope (mud logging, wireline, LWD, coring)
- Ensuring data quality, integration, and timely reporting
- Supporting well delivery through accurate geological interpretation and operational recommendations
- Acting as the key interface between offshore drilling teams, onshore subsurface teams, and service providers
- Contributing to continuous improvement of geological practices and operational procedures

ACTIVITIES

Real-Time Geological Operations
- Monitor and interpret cuttings, mud gas, LWD/MWD, and wireline data in real time
- Identify formation tops, lithological variations, and hydrocarbon indications
- Correlate real-time geological data with pre-drill models and seismic prognosis
- Detect drilling hazards including overpressure, instability, gas kicks, and losses
- Provide recommendations for trajectory adjustments to remain within reservoir targets
- Define and call key operational milestones including casing points, coring points, phase TD and well TD
- Optimize rate of penetration (ROP) in line with geological conditions and acquisition programs

Supervision & Coordination of Services
- Supervise and coordinate geological service providers, including:
o Mud logging
o Wireline and LWD operations
o Coring activities
- Ensure execution of acquisition programs and high-quality data delivery
- Conduct audits, anticipate operational needs, and follow up on performance
- Manage sample collection, handling, and shipment (cuttings, cores, fluids, gas samples, etc.)

HSE Responsibilities
- Participate actively in risk assessments, safety meetings, and incident reporting
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE standards and offshore regulations
- Promote a strong safety culture for all personnel under geoscience supervision

Communication & Reporting
- Deliver accurate and timely reporting, including:
o Daily geological reports
o End-of-well reports
o Lessons learned / return of experience
o Data deliverables (real-time and memory data)
- Coordinate effectively between:
o Offshore drilling teams
o Onshore subsurface teams
o Service companies
- Provide instructions and supervision to contractors within scope
- Lead and mentor junior wellsite geologists and trainees
- Participate in pre-drill planning and post-well reviews
- Attend and contribute to all required operational meetings

QUALIFICATION LEVEL REQUIRED
- Minimum Geoscience diploma (BTS BAC+2) or higher, with strong operational geology experience
- IFP (Institut Français du Pétrole) certification in Subsurface Geology for Operations / Well Site Geology

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- BOSIET including EBS (Emergency Breathing System)
- Valid Offshore Medical Certificate

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience as a Senior Well Site Geologist
- Proven experience in:
o Exploration & appraisal wells
o Deep offshore operations
o Vertical, deviated, and sidetrack wells
o High pressure / high temperature (HPHT) environments
- Operational exposure to:
o Logging While Drilling (LWD)
o Wireline logging (open hole and cased hole)
o Coring operations
o Drill Stem Testing (DST)
o Plug & abandon (P&A) operations

Technical Skills
- Strong foundation in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology
- Solid understanding of formation evaluation and petrophysics
- Advanced capability in real-time data integration and interpretation
- In-depth knowledge of:
o Drilling operations
o Mud logging
o Logging technologies (LWD / Wireline)
o Coring techniques
- Working knowledge of fluid systems (mud, cement, brines)

Software
- Proficiency in industry tools including:
o GRAVITAS
o Gemstone
o SQM / SQMT

Operational Competencies
- Ability to operate effectively in 24/7 high-pressure drilling environments
- Strong understanding of well delivery processes and offshore logistics
- High adaptability to remote and harsh offshore conditions

Analytical & Soft Skills
- Strong real-time decision-making and interpretation skills
- Proven ability in risk identification and mitigation
- Ability to rapidly integrate multiple data sets
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- English: Advanced / Proficient (mandatory)

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Rotational schedule: 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off (flexibility required based on operational needs)
- Offshore rig-based role with potential onshore support in Namibia (Windhoek, Luderitz, Walvis Bay)
- Requirement to work consecutive days including weekends and public holidays

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum 10+ years in senior wellsite geology roles within offshore oil & gas operations
