QC Inspector (Welding)
Location: Mesaieed, QatarContract Type: Contract role until 30 September 2030
Work Schedule: 6 days a week
Key Responsibilities
- Implement elements of the management system applicable to your function.
- Ensure your own safety and the safety of others affected by project activities, and proactively participate in all safety matters affecting construction.
- Prevent pollution to the environment during project activities.
- Coordinate and attend inspections, tests, and punch listing on behalf of the client.
- Familiarise yourself with project and discipline-specific inspection documentation to ensure understanding of contract requirements.
- Implement quality inspection procedures on construction activities, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Ensure documentation generated by the contractor for inspections, tests, surveillance, and surveys meets project requirements.
- Complete relevant forms and reports on inspections and tests undertaken by the contractor and maintain inspection records.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, third parties, and end users at your level.
- Ensure all equipment used for measuring and testing is calibrated and records are available with the contractor.
- Perform surveillance of project site construction activities to identify problems, non-conformances, and assist in proposing corrective and preventive actions.
- Liaise with other field supervisors and contractors to ensure NDE is planned and performed.
- Assist in the review and approval of contractor QA/QC documents such as QCPs, ITPs, WPS/PQRs, special processes, personnel qualifications, material approval requests, testing reports, MRBs, and project dossiers.
- Monitor and witness contractor's fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing activities related to structural steel, process piping, pipelines, tanks, heaters, rotating equipment, and static equipment including internals installation and associated interface activities.
- Witness and verify all inspection and testing activities related to welding, NDT, PWHT, hardness testing, alloy verification, painting, insulation, etc., ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Monitor the performance of special processes and personnel, weld repairs, NDT status, and controls exercised by the contractor, and inform the QA/QC engineer of any concerns.
- Participate in receiving inspection of project permanent materials and verification of associated documentation for traceability of piping and pipeline bulk materials, structural steel, static and rotating equipment, consumables, painting/wrapping materials, etc.
- Follow up on correction and corrective actions to close out non-conformances.
- Monitor trends of non-compliance and provide feedback on contractor performance.
- Initiate surveillance and NCRs for QA/QC engineer's approval.
- Assist in conducting quality audits for contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, and third-party laboratories.
- Maintain relevant QA/QC documents and records.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and/or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with experience in quality control in a multi-discipline construction environment.
- Formal training in QC/QMS and membership with a recognised chartered or other professional institution is preferred.
- Formal training and certification in BGAS grade-II or III / NACE Level-I or II Painting Inspector, CSWIP 3.2 / AWS-SCWI Senior Welding Inspector, and ASNT NDT Level-II are preferred. Equivalent certifications from internationally recognized organizations are also accepted.
- 10 years' experience for graduate engineers or 15 years' experience for diploma holders in a similar position on infrastructure projects in the Oil & Gas sector. Experience in GCC is desirable.
- At least 5 years' direct experience relating to inspection/execution of construction activities, preferably as a client QC inspector.
- Hands-on experience with CRA Clad/Lined Pipeline/flow lines and/or piping/equipment of exotic materials (DSS, SDSS, Ni, Cr, etc.) welding inspection/testing.
- Experience managing contractor's fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing activities related to structural steel, process piping, pipelines, tanks, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, and static equipment including internals installation and associated interface activities.
- Installation and testing experience with FRP piping systems (GRE/GRV/GRP/GRVE), HVAC, fire fighting, irrigation, plumbing, and drainage systems related to industrial infrastructure projects in the Oil & Gas sector.
- Sound working knowledge of QC aspects and various testing requirements related to major oil & gas/petrochemical civil/structural construction and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work well with contractor personnel and colleagues at all levels in a multidisciplinary, multicultural environment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of codes such as ASME Sec I, II, V, VIII, IX, ANSI B31.3/31.4/31.8, NACE, API, SMACNA, ASHARE, NFPA, and AWS D1.1.
- Specific experience in process equipment internals, installations, and static and rotating equipment erection, alignment, and testing activities.
- Internationally recognized certification in auditing ISO-9001 or equivalent, with the ability to exercise judgment against the criteria of the standards.
