About the Project

Join a landmark green steel project in Boden, Sweden, as a Project Controls Manager. You will play a crucial leadership role, supporting all project controls functions-including planning, cost control, progress measurement, forecasting, reporting, risk management, and change management-throughout the intensive phases of construction execution. This is an opportunity to work closely with Construction Management, Area Managers, Site Leadership, Engineering, Procurement, and subcontract teams, ensuring effective performance visibility and proactive decision-making to keep the project on track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide input to the project execution plan, baseline, and control budgets for key projects
  • Work directly with the Project Manager/Director and Project Controls Manager, delivering project status, forecasting, and defining alternatives
  • Understand contract requirements relevant to the assigned project
  • Develop and implement effective cost control strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with industry standards and best practices
  • Manage and oversee project controls activities throughout the project lifecycle
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to establish and monitor cost control baselines and budgetary adherence
  • Monitor project expenditures-including material, labor, and subcontractor costs-to identify cost-saving opportunities and prevent overruns
  • Maintain schedule integrity, proactively monitor/report productivity, and help drive project completion
  • Assess the schedule impact of individual and cumulative project changes
  • Liaise with functional managers and key vendors to develop EPFCI schedules at the required level of detail
  • Ensure adequate resource planning and project staffing
  • Review and use late reports and look-ahead reports to proactively manage progress
  • Conduct regular cost performance reviews and variance analyses, providing recommendations for optimization
  • Implement efficient cost reporting systems for accurate financial information delivery
  • Lead, train, and evaluate a team of cost control professionals, fostering continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with procurement and contract management to ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance
  • Prepare/review bids, check estimates, change orders, and cost-to-complete estimates
  • Ensure project control deliverables align with established guidelines and procedures
  • Ongoing staff development and training for project controls employees
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and technologies to drive innovation and efficiency
  • Partner with Construction Management to establish and maintain execution strategies
  • Develop construction-centric performance measurement systems
  • Monitor productivity, earned value, quantities installed, labor efficiency, and construction progress
  • Validate field progress using accurate progress measurement methodologies
  • Analyze productivity losses and identify recovery opportunities
  • Lead schedule recovery and acceleration assessments as needed
  • Ensure construction contractors provide timely and accurate progress updates

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 20+ years of experience in cost control or project controls roles within the EPCI industry
  • Extensive EPC experience with strong construction execution expertise
  • Thorough knowledge of project cost control methodologies, including EVM, cost forecasting, and risk analysis
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Primavera P6, SAP, Excel
  • Ability to produce and maintain logically linked activity schedules and critical paths in EPCIC planning
  • Skilled in producing progress curves, histograms, variance reports, and assessing progress
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex financial data and generating actionable insights
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and developing cost-control teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Proactive, result-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and contract management principles
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, balance tight deadlines, and maintain attention to detail under pressure
