About the Opportunity

We are seeking two Start-up & Transition Senior Engineers to join the Operations / Production team of a large-scale greenfield LNG development comprising two liquefaction trains. Reporting to the Start-up & Transition Manager, you will play a central role in bringing the LNG Trains from mechanical completion through handover, start-up, performance testing and early operations.

Purpose of the Role

  • Before Handover: Verify that the EPC Contractor complies with contractual obligations and that the LNG Trains facilities have reached handover readiness.
  • After Handover: Lead the start-up of the LNG Trains on behalf of the Operator, provide technical expertise, and take part in the performance tests and early operations.

Key Responsibilities

Before Handover

  • Develop the subsystems start-up sequence.
  • Take part in the preparation and witnessing of critical commissioning activities.
  • Review and comment the Red Spade register.
  • Verify handover readiness by coordinating discipline reviews of key deliverables: commissioning completion and RFSU dossiers, outstanding punch lists at RFSU, key as-built documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, ESD logic diagrams, F&G matrix), operating manuals (including vendors) and operating procedures.
  • Participate in the review and development of start-up procedures, ensuring alignment with Operator standards.
  • Develop and validate start-up procedures with the Operator Training Simulator (OTS).
  • Take part in RFSU walk-downs with the EPC Contractor.
  • Witness ESD / EDP / F&G cause & effect tests.
  • Define the Vendors mobilization plan applicable during the post-handover period.

After Handover

  • Lead the start-up of the LNG Trains in close cooperation with Production staff.
  • Attend daily SIMOPS coordination meetings.
  • Propose and manage revisions of the Vendors mobilization plan based on technical issues encountered during start-up, and ensure vendors are mobilized and reporting accordingly.
  • Assist and coordinate the execution of the Performance Tests, including review of the final test reports.
  • Propose improvements to operational procedures and processes based on observed facility performance.
  • Support Operations staff in troubleshooting and in engineering studies for plant modifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of short-duration planned shutdowns and of warranty claims (technical input).

Your Profile

We are specifically looking for candidates who have held a similar scope on large-scale LNG projects-even where the job title was different. Relevant previous titles include (non-exhaustive):

  • Shift Superintendent
  • LNG Production Engineer
  • LNG SU Leader

Requirements

  • Education: Master's degree (or higher) in Applied Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent to international standard.
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in start-up and operations of LNG production plants.
  • Excellent knowledge of LNG plant processes and start-up operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of HSE and Environmental Management Systems (incl. ISO 14001).
  • Excellent knowledge of Permit to Work (PTW) systems in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

10 Essential Technical Requirements

  1. LNG start-up & operations track record - Minimum 15 years in start-up and operations of baseload LNG production plants, with at least one greenfield LNG train brought from RFSU through start-up to stable operations (similar major LNG project-type scope is the reference benchmark).
  2. LNG process expertise - In-depth knowledge of large-scale liquefaction technology (e.g. APCI C3/MR or equivalent), cryogenics, refrigeration loops, fractionation, flare/BOG systems and associated utilities, with strong troubleshooting capability.
  3. Start-up sequences & procedures - Proven ability to develop subsystem start-up sequences and to write, review and validate start-up procedures, including validation on an Operator Training Simulator (OTS).
  4. Handover readiness verification - Experience verifying EPC contractor deliverables at handover: commissioning completion and RFSU dossiers, punch list management at RFSU, and key as-builts (PFDs, P&IDs, ESD logic diagrams, F&G matrix).
  5. Critical commissioning witnessing - Hands-on participation in and witnessing of critical commissioning activities, RFSU walk-downs, and ESD / EDP / F&G cause & effect testing.
  6. Performance tests - Direct experience in the preparation, execution and evaluation of LNG train performance tests, including critical review of contractor final test reports.
  7. Vendor mobilization management - Experience defining, revising and enforcing vendor mobilization plans during start-up and early operations, including oversight of vendor daily reporting and diagnostic recommendations.
  8. PTW & SIMOPS - Excellent command of Permit to Work systems and SIMOPS coordination in live Oil & Gas operating environments, including daily contractor/company interface meetings.
  9. HSE & environmental systems - Strong working knowledge of HSE Management Systems and ISO 14001 environmental requirements, with demonstrated safety leadership during commissioning-to-operations transition phases.
  10. Education, language & site adaptability - Master's degree in chemical engineering / applied science (or equivalent), excellent written and spoken English, and proven ability to work on remote, rotational, multicultural greenfield sites.
