Principal Engineer, Pipelines (Permanent)
Working Location
South East England. Genuine hybrid working with strong remote flexibility. International exposure with short-term visits to sites and offices worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership of the pipelines discipline across major onshore and offshore projects.
- Lead and direct a team of discipline engineers and designers on large-scale projects.
- Perform design activities for rigid onshore and offshore pipelines throughout all project phases, from concept selection through FEED, ITT, and execution.
- Supervise and review philosophies, specifications, routing studies, and mechanical design.
- Check calculations and analyses including stress, spanning, global buckling, walking, on-bottom roughness, tie-ins, and expansion loops.
- Oversee crossing design, hot tapping, and trenchless work (HDD, microtunnelling).
- Prepare datasheets and technical requisitions, compile ITTs, and carry out bid evaluations.
- Validate pipeline inspection, maintenance, and emergency repair strategies.
- Check third-party design and installation activities during execution.
- Visit manufacturers (line pipe, coating, valves) as required.
- Liaise with process, materials and corrosion, flow assurance, instrumentation, civil, and construction disciplines.
Requirements
- Working experience in oil & gas across rigid onshore and offshore pipelines.
- Mandatory knowledge of pipeline design software such as DNV SESAM pipeline package, PET, AutoPipe, SAGE Profile, AGA.
- Desirable knowledge of ANSYS, ABAQUS, and OrcaFlex.
- Familiarity with UK and international codes (BS, DNV, ISO, API, ASME) is desirable.
- Experience leading and directing discipline engineers and designers.
- Strong planning, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ambition to develop into a high-level technical expert.
- Ideally degree qualified in Pipeline, Subsea, Offshore, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
