The Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the mechanical assembly, installation and fitting of gas turbine packages, generators and associated equipment in line with engineering drawings and manufacturing procedures.
Working as part of a collaborative production team, you will ensure all work is completed safely, accurately and to the highest quality standards, helping to achieve production targets while maintaining exceptional levels of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical systems, sub-assemblies and components for gas turbine packages and associated equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and assembly instructions.
- Carry out precision fitting, alignment and installation using specialist measuring equipment.
- Perform mechanical assembly on rotating equipment, engines, gearboxes and auxiliary systems.
- Conduct quality inspections throughout the assembly process and rectify any defects identified.
- Complete production documentation, build records and inspection reports accurately.
- Safely operate workshop machinery, lifting equipment and tooling.
- Work closely with production, quality and engineering teams to achieve manufacturing targets.
- Assist in resolving manufacturing issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Promote a proactive safety culture, including exercising STOP authority where unsafe conditions are identified.
What We are Looking For
We are keen to speak with Mechanical Fitters who have experience working within manufacturing, engineering or industrial environments.
You will ideally have:
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting or a recognised equivalent (essential).
- Previous experience in mechanical fitting, assembly or maintenance.
- Experience assembling rotating equipment, engines, turbines, pumps, compressors or similar mechanical systems would be highly advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, dial gauges and alignment equipment.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and assembly techniques.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Basic IT skills for completing production records and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- A proactive approach to Health & Safety and continuous improvement.
