Mechanical Site Engineer (Power Generation)

Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Site Engineer to join the owner's engineering team on a major power generation project in Malaysia.
Representing the project owner, you will oversee mechanical construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, and project stakeholders, you will play a key role in supporting successful project execution from construction through completion.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Supervision
- Supervise mechanical construction activities on site to ensure compliance with approved engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Monitor contractor performance and provide technical guidance throughout construction
- Verify construction quality and ensure work complies with applicable standards and project procedures
Quality Assurance & Control
- Witness inspection and hold points as the owner's representative
- Verify contractor compliance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality documentation, and approved procedures
- Identify quality issues, raise non-conformance reports (NCRs), and support timely resolution of deficiencies
- Monitor implementation of corrective actions to ensure compliance
Health, Safety & Environment
- Monitor contractor compliance with project HSE requirements
- Identify unsafe conditions and issue safety observations where required
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout construction activities
- Support compliance with project and regulatory safety standards
Project Coordination
- Attend daily, weekly, and monthly coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders
- Provide technical support to site teams and coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering disciplines
- Act as the primary interface between site construction activities and the engineering office
- Assist with resolving technical queries during project execution
Reporting
- Maintain detailed daily site diaries and construction records
- Prepare input for weekly and monthly progress reports
- Report construction progress, quality issues, safety observations, and technical concerns to project management
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Site Manager and the owner's engineering team
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery
- Support communication between site personnel and engineering teams based in the project office
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Diploma holders with significant relevant experience will also be considered
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including substantial construction supervision experience
- Proven experience on power generation projects
- Experience with thermal power plant construction or engineering is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of construction methods, quality management systems, and HSE requirements
- Experience representing owners, clients, consultants, or EPC/EPCM organisations during construction is advantageous
- Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong reporting and documentation skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams
Preferred Experience
- Experience on large industrial or power generation EPC/EPCM projects
- Previous site-based construction supervision experience
- Experience working within owner's engineer or owner's representative teams
- Familiarity with heavy industrial construction and commissioning activities
