Construction Supervisor (Mechanical)

Overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced Construction Supervisor (Mechanical) to support the delivery of a major onshore solar energy project in Qatar. The successful candidate will supervise mechanical construction and installation activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved engineering standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.

The role involves close coordination with contractors, engineering teams, commissioning personnel, and project stakeholders throughout construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise mechanical construction and installation activities carried out by contractors
  • Ensure all work is executed in accordance with approved engineering drawings, project specifications, quality requirements, and HSE standards
  • Review and provide technical comments on construction method statements, material submittals, and commissioning procedures
  • Act as the Performing Authority for Permit-to-Work (PTW) activities involving contractors
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules
  • Participate in constructability reviews during project execution
  • Review contractor construction schedules, work plans, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and method statements
  • Coordinate contractor mobilisation, site access, and laydown areas
  • Support the issuance of permits, gate passes, and other site access requirements
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and verification of completed mechanical works
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning inspections and support mechanical completion activities
  • Prepare and issue Mechanical Completion Certificates
  • Monitor and ensure timely close-out of punch list items
  • Review and endorse red-line mark-ups and as-built drawings
  • Participate in commissioning, project handover, and final acceptance activities
  • Review and endorse construction dossiers and turnover documentation
  • Support knowledge transfer and development of junior engineering personnel where required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in a related engineering discipline with significant construction experience
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience supervising mechanical construction within oil and gas or major industrial projects
  • Proven experience on large-scale onshore solar photovoltaic (PV) projects
  • Experience working within live operating oil and gas facilities and implementing plant protection requirements during construction
  • Strong understanding of construction management principles, industry standards, and project execution processes
  • Experience reviewing construction documentation including method statements, commissioning procedures, and material submissions
  • Knowledge of mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and project handover processes
  • Strong communication, coordination, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on EPC or EPIC projects
  • Previous Middle East project experience
  • Strong knowledge of Permit-to-Work systems and construction safety management
  • Experience supporting renewable energy projects integrated within industrial or oil and gas environments
