Position Summary

The Field Specialist 4 (FS-4) operates, redresses, and maintains downhole tools and equipment at customer job sites in support of well intervention operations. This role is competent to operate as lead hand in Cased Hole Fishing or Milling, Whipstock, Permanent Cut & Pull, Thru Tubing, and Single Section Milling. Working under broad direction, the FS-4 applies proficient knowledge of well intervention applications to advise on and troubleshoot complex technical issues, ensuring equipment and services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with HSE, quality, and legal requirements. The FS-4 liaises closely with customers and drilling crews on job planning and troubleshooting, provides technical assistance to improve equipment reliability and operating costs, and supports the training and mentoring of less experienced engineers, while continuously expanding their own application knowledge and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with all HSE, Quality, and IT standards and policies; wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and keep required HSE and quality certifications up to date.
  • Operate, redress, and maintain downhole tools and equipment at customer job sites in support of well intervention operations.
  • Work under broad direction, applying proficient knowledge of well intervention applications, and advise on and troubleshoot complex, critical technical issues.
  • Continuously expand application knowledge and expertise to include new applications of increasing complexity and risk; perform complex operational tasks and projects, including developing new or improved processes and techniques.
  • Apply advanced, specialized knowledge of services and practices, and ensure equipment is compatible with all other equipment used on the job.
  • Work in accordance with HSE policies and procedures, both on site and in the workshop, and maintain legal compliance.
  • Safely and efficiently use all tools and equipment to support timely completion of assigned work orders and duties, and to optimize throughput.
  • Complete job reports and other relevant paperwork accurately, and file and distribute them in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with customers and drilling crews on troubleshooting and job planning to ensure effective solutions are identified and implemented; attend customer meetings as required and represent the company in a positive manner.
  • Provide technical assistance in troubleshooting performance problems and improving energy efficiency, operating costs, and overall equipment reliability, including through on-site visits.
  • Stay up to date on product capabilities, enhancements, and customer processes; apply and follow lessons learned and best practices; write specific job procedures as required.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and performance-management support for less experienced engineers.
  • Be available on call 24 hours, and perform other duties and activities as assigned by the Operations Manager or Supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, engineering qualification, or equivalent experience in the oilfield.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years' experience in oilfield activities.
  • Expert-level knowledge and understanding of services and practices, with thorough technical knowledge of Fishing, Whipstock, and/or Thru-Tubing products and services.
  • Competent to operate as lead hand in Cased Hole Fishing or Milling, Whipstock, Permanent Cut & Pull, Thru Tubing, and Single Section Milling.
  • Good knowledge of downhole tools and equipment, and understanding of downhole conditions, rotating equipment, and vibration & harmonics.
  • Strong operational and technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent communication in English (written and oral), presentation, leadership/supervisory/team, and organisational skills.
  • Outstanding ability to build relationships with others; self-starter with the ability to work independently and train other engineers.
  • Capable of multitasking and working effectively under pressure; self-motivated.
  • Ability to learn and use computer programs and spreadsheets within the proposed job environment.
  • Ability to generate clear, concise, and timely reports in a professional manner.
  • Willingness and readiness to travel as required.
