QA/QC Inspector - Diesel Generators

Key Objective
The primary objective of the QA/QC Inspector is to ensure that each genset is fully compliant with the Customer's technical and quality requirements, correctly documented, free from unresolved major/critical defects, and properly prepared for shipment.
Scope of Work
The QA/QC Inspector will be responsible for performing quality inspections and final acceptance checks on generator sets (gensets) at the supplier/manufacturer facility, in accordance with the Customer's inspection checklist, approved documentation, applicable technical standards, and project requirements.
The position requires a strong combination of mechanical and electrical inspection skills, together with the ability to review technical documentation, identify non-conformities, and accurately report inspection findings.
The Inspector will work closely with the Customer, Supplier, Manufacturer, and Project/Quality teams to ensure that the gensets are compliant with the required quality standards and ready for shipment.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections of complete generator sets in accordance with the Customer's inspection checklist.
- Verify the identification and traceability of the main components, including serial numbers, model numbers, and relevant equipment data.
- Verify the physical condition, installation, assembly, and workmanship of the equipment.
- Identify and record non-conformities, defects, missing items, and deviations from the applicable requirements.
- Classify findings according to their level of severity, including Critical and Major issues where applicable.
- Complete inspection records using the required Pass / Fail / N/A criteria and provide clear comments and photographic evidence where required.
- Ensure that all findings identified during inspection are properly recorded and followed up until closure.
- Review relevant quality and manufacturing documentation and verify that required inspections and functional tests have been completed and properly documented.
- Interface with the Supplier's Quality and Manufacturing teams to clarify technical issues and agree corrective actions.
- Report inspection results to the Customer and the relevant Project/QA-QC team.
Technical Inspection Activities
The Inspector will be required to perform checks covering, as applicable, the following systems and components:
- Engine: Identification and nameplate verification, installation and general condition, inspection of mechanical connections, piping, fittings, torque marking, and documentation.
- Alternator: Model and serial number verification, inspection of mechanical and electrical connections, cable routing, terminations, torque marking, and workmanship.
- Radiator & Cooling System: Installation and condition, verification of connections, piping, fittings, and supports.
- Exhaust System: Inspection of exhaust components, piping, supports, connections, installation, mechanical integrity, and insulation.
- Electrical System: Inspection of panels, cables, connections, terminations, cable routing, identification, verification against drawings, torque marking, and workmanship.
- Battery System: Inspection of batteries, chargers, connections, identification, installation, cabling, terminals, and protection.
- Switchgear (SWGR) System: Inspection of switchgear, breakers, disconnect switches, ratings, identification, cable terminations, torque marking, and verification against drawings and requirements.
- Fuel System: Inspection of fuel tanks, piping, valves, filters, supply and return connections, pipe connections, torque marking, identification, and workmanship.
- Enclosure: Inspection of enclosure, doors, panels, louvers, internal components, condition, workmanship, access doors, locks, hardware, sealing, and securing for transportation.
- Inlet & Outlet System: Inspection of air inlet and outlet systems, louvers, dampers, components, and correct installation and securing of openings.
Final Inspection Before Shipment
- Verification that all required inspections and functional tests have been completed and recorded.
- Verification that all internal inspection documents have been properly signed off by Quality.
- Verification that all punch-list items and non-conformities have been addressed or formally accepted.
- Verification that all required labels, identification plates, and safety markings are installed.
- Verification that loose components and ship-loose items are properly identified, secured, and prepared for shipment.
- Verification that doors, dampers, louvers, and other movable components are secured for transportation.
- Verification that shipping covers and protection are correctly installed.
- Verification that required documentation is tagged and shipped together with the genset.
- Final visual inspection to confirm that the genset is in an acceptable condition for shipment.
Quality Documentation & Reporting
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection records, including inspection checklists, Pass / Fail / N/A records, inspection notes and findings, Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs), punch lists, photographic records, inspection and test records, review/sign-off of relevant quality documentation, and final inspection and shipment release documentation.
- Ensure all inspection findings are clearly documented, technically justified, and supported by appropriate evidence where required.
Required Technical Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as QA/QC Inspector, Quality Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Electrical Inspector, or similar.
- Proven experience inspecting generator sets, diesel gensets, rotating equipment, electrical equipment, or similar industrial machinery.
- Good knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, datasheets, equipment specifications, and inspection documentation.
- Experience with inspection checklists, ITPs, quality records, and NCR management.
- Good understanding of electrical connections, cable terminations, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
- Good understanding of mechanical piping, fittings, bolted connections, and torque requirements.
- Ability to identify poor workmanship, installation defects, and deviations from specifications.
- Experience with supplier/manufacturer inspections and factory-based quality control activities.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally with suppliers and Customer representatives.
- Good reporting and documentation skills.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in one or more of the following environments is an advantage: Data Centres, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Industrial Power Systems, Diesel Generator Sets, Electrical Switchgear, EPC projects, Manufacturing/OEM environments.
