TITLE: Discipline Engineer - Electrical

Reports to: Senior Engineer / Lead Engineer / Chief Engineer /as applicable
Immediate Reports: Trainee Engineer / Design Team as assigned

Main Purpose of the Job
Responsible for the study, design, specification and detailed design of conventional devices, systems, units or facilities within the Electrical discipline. Carries out responsible and varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with the relevant discipline and knowledge of reciprocal effects on other disciplines. Analyses technical documents and proposes solutions based upon industrial principles and practical experience. Works independently to develop/adapt drawings, documents and databases based upon a combination of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Difficult, complex or unusual decisions are usually left to more senior engineers. Supervises and advises less experienced engineers from time to time.

Job Objectives
- Able to prepare basic electrical engineering documents to include cable, earthing, lighting and equipment layouts as well as selection, sizing and specification of electrical equipment.
- Competent user of discipline specific tools for calculations and design such as Dialux, and/or ETAP.
- Prepare/adapt new or existing drawings and documents for project specific objectives. Supervise, check and validate drawings and documents prepared by others.
- Analyze, interpret and apply codes, standards and specifications to the work for unconventional systems. Make engineering decisions based upon the analysis.
- Review vendor technical and commercial quotations for conventional and unconventional systems and make vendor recommendations based upon best overall value - technical suitability, material price, installation costs and operational costs.
- Be the document owner for own documents and supervise others in their document management practices.
- Identify and communicate impacts of own work, or that of an assigned team, on other disciplines. Interface regularly with other disciplines.
- Deliver cross-function deliverables to include technical evaluations, engineering requisitions, proposals and estimates for complex systems within own discipline.
- Contribute to project and/or departmental meetings, technical reviews and safety reviews.
- Demonstrate time management and budget awareness through management of blocks of engineering hours encompassing multiple tasks/deliverables.
- Improve management skills by scheduling and budgeting hours for own work and that of direct reports and by working to broader procurement budgets.
- Assume other duties as may be required from time to time.

Impact: Impact on cost and schedule for own scope and for that of direct reports. Risks extend to the broader scope. Personally developed original engineering decisions can make an impact across engineering disciplines.
Accountability: Accountable for the technical accuracy, scope management and quality of own work and for the work of direct reports. Accountable for hours and material budgets associated with own work scope and that of any assigned team(s).

HSE and Quality Responsibilities
Maintain standards of HSE and comply with Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements. Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others in the workplace. Follow and maintain standards of Quality in accordance with Quality System requirements.

Typical Education Skills and Experience
- BSEng or equivalent Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited University.
- Minimum 5-6 years post graduate work experience in engineering consultancy or EPC company within the oil & gas industry.
- Some site-based construction and commissioning experience is an advantage.

Working Location: Doha, Qatar
Working Hours: 48 Hours/week (Sunday to Thursday, Qatar Time)
Contract Type: Secondment (3-6 Months)
