Contract Engineer
Location: Paris, France (Missions to Suriname)Target Start Date: October 2026
Contract Type & Length: Annually Renewable Contract
Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off (On rotation 7 days per week, 8 hours per day)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tenders, conduct bid evaluations with internal stakeholders, negotiate with bidders, and finalize/issue contracts and purchase orders in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the end-to-end sourcing process, including business end users, contract owners, finance, HSE, and legal colleagues.
- Develop and implement procurement and contracting strategies supporting offshore drilling and marine operations.
- Recommend contracting models that balance operational requirements, cost optimization, and risk management.
- Support long-term procurement planning for drilling campaigns and logistics activities.
- Identify opportunities for commercial improvement and value creation.
- Deliver quality, cost-effective, and timely contracts and purchase orders, responding efficiently to operational changes and breakdown situations.
- Participate in defining and implementing contract and procurement strategies.
- Prepare and conduct calls for tenders to meet operational schedules and budgets.
- Negotiate with suppliers to drive cost efficiencies and meet performance objectives.
- Prepare and present cases to relevant contract committees and boards as required.
- Ensure global frame contracts are implemented and negotiate local frame contracts as necessary.
- Coordinate interactions between multiple stakeholders on contract and procurement matters.
- Ensure proper administration, filing, and updating of all documents in procurement and ERP systems and collaborative platforms.
- Facilitate effective Supplier Relationship Management, including establishing Key Performance Indicators with relevant suppliers.
- Manage supplier prequalification processes and maintain supplier databases with attention to risk management.
- Organize supplier quality management and performance monitoring for key suppliers, ensuring lessons learned are implemented in future contracts and operations.
- Conduct market intelligence activities to ensure proper benchmarks for related categories.
- Promote and ensure adherence to HSE procedures and policies in all contracts and procurement activities.
- Provide expertise during emergency situations related to supply chain and contract activities.
- Promote a safe working environment and participate in HSE training and initiatives.
Requirements
- Master's degree in procurement or equivalent discipline.
- Advanced level in contract writing and negotiation.
- Good working knowledge of procurement and ERP systems and standard office software.
- 7-10 years of professional experience in contracts within the oil and gas industry.
- Relevant experience in contracting rigs, drilling and wells services, and marine logistics services is strongly preferred.
- Proven abilities in planning, organizing, coordination, basic management, project management, problem-solving, and building effective working relationships.
- Result-oriented, able to work under pressure with limited supervision, and effective both independently and in teams.
- Knowledge of procurement for drilling and wells required.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Experience in a similar position within a major energy operator is highly preferred.
