Chemist - Quality Control Laboratory (Oil & Gas / Petrochemicals)

About the Opportunity

A leading industrial energy organisation is seeking an experienced Chemist to support laboratory operations, quality control activities and process optimisation within a large-scale oil and gas production environment in Mesaieed.

This role plays a key part in ensuring laboratory accuracy, product quality compliance and continuous improvement of testing methods and analytical processes. The successful candidate will work closely with production, maintenance and technical teams to support safe, efficient and high-quality operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and analytical support to production, maintenance and technical teams
  • Ensure laboratory operations deliver accurate, reliable and timely analytical results
  • Supervise laboratory activities and guide junior team members in line with operational procedures
  • Review and implement new analytical methods and laboratory equipment improvements
  • Conduct quality inspection of raw materials against approved specifications
  • Manage complex samples and troubleshooting of laboratory analytical issues
  • Oversee calibration, maintenance and performance of laboratory equipment
  • Support process troubleshooting and plant performance improvement initiatives
  • Act as technical focal point between laboratory and operating units
  • Provide chemistry and analytical expertise for production issues, audits and investigations
  • Support development of testing protocols for new products and feedstock analysis
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in laboratory methods, efficiency and cost optimisation
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, quality and regulatory standards across all laboratory activities
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation in line with departmental requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory systems, procedures and practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage)
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in quality control and laboratory functions within the oil and gas industry
  • Experience in petrochemical or refining environments is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methods, analytical instruments and quality systems
  • Experience in troubleshooting laboratory equipment and chemical analysis issues
  • Strong understanding of HSE, quality assurance and regulatory compliance in industrial environments
  • Ability to support process improvement and cross-functional technical problem solving
  • Strong communication and reporting skills in English
  • Arabic language skills are an advantage
