Senior Secondary Design Engineer

Role Purpose
Deliver and check protection, control, automation and secondary systems designs for high-voltage substations serving Australian utilities and infrastructure clients. The role requires strong design judgement and effective coordination with primary, telecommunications and civil teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop protection and control philosophies, single line diagrams, functional diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and cable schedules.
- Prepare protection, metering, control, interlocking, SCADA and station service design documentation.
- Select and specify relays, control equipment, panels, batteries, chargers and associated secondary systems.
- Complete design calculations and support settings, grading, I/O and interface development as required.
- Review vendor drawings and coordinate interfaces with primary plant, telecommunications, SCADA and commissioning teams.
- Lead or participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, testing planning and technical query resolution.
- Check engineering deliverables and mentor less experienced engineers and drafters.
- Maintain clear records of assumptions, design decisions, client comments and approved changes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Power Engineering.
- Substantial experience in HV substation secondary systems design.
- Strong knowledge of protection and control principles, DC systems, metering, SCADA and substation interfaces.
- Ability to develop and independently check detailed schematics and engineering documents.
- Knowledge of IEC and utility standards, with the ability to apply Australian client requirements.
- Clear technical writing and professional spoken English.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with IEC 61850, digital substations or protection system testing.
- Familiarity with major protection relay platforms.
- Australian utility or transmission-level project experience.
Working Environment
This is a permanent, office-based position in Kuala Lumpur. The successful candidate will work as part of an international engineering team, with most assignments supporting power infrastructure projects in Australia. Some collaboration outside standard Malaysian office hours may occasionally be required to support project meetings and deadlines.
