Senior HSE Advisor

Location: Sweden (Projects across the Nordics & Europe; occasional visits to Finnish HQ)

Role Context

Join one of the Nordics' most established technical services and life-cycle solutions providers, delivering mission-critical data centre projects across Sweden and Europe. The Senior HSE Advisor will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental performance across large-scale construction projects, with a primary focus on Data Centre developments. Working closely with Project Directors, Construction Managers, Site Teams and Client Representatives, you will provide expert HSE guidance and support throughout all phases of project delivery.

You will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with Swedish legislation, client requirements and company procedures, while driving continuous improvement in Health, Safety and Environmental performance. As a trusted advisor to site management teams, you will support safe project execution, manage risk, and help ensure that projects are delivered without harm to people, property or the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental support across project teams and construction sites.
  • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture throughout all project activities.
  • Support Project Management teams in the implementation of company HSE policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Swedish health and safety legislation, environmental regulations and client-specific requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments.
  • Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
  • Support the preparation, review and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Identify hazards, unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviours, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead incident investigations and support root cause analysis processes.
  • Produce detailed incident reports and ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated.
  • Track and monitor corrective actions to closure.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning activities.
  • Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with project HSE requirements.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and provide HSE input during construction and commissioning activities.
  • Support environmental management initiatives, including waste management, pollution prevention and sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor project HSE performance and produce regular reports and KPI metrics.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records and documentation.
  • Support client audits and inspections.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices across the business.
  • Promote behavioural safety programmes and workforce engagement initiatives.
  • Support the successful delivery of projects through all phases of construction, commissioning and handover.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental role within the construction, engineering, MEP, industrial or building services sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Experience working within high-risk construction environments.
  • Experience conducting accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment processes and safe systems of work.
  • Experience auditing and monitoring contractor and subcontractor safety performance.
  • Knowledge of environmental management principles and sustainability practices.
  • Experience delivering safety training, inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage personnel at all levels within an organisation.
  • Experience working closely with project teams to improve safety performance and behaviours.
  • Strong report writing and incident investigation capabilities.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within fast-track and technically complex project environments.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and reporting systems.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams.
  • Relevant Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NCRQ, NVQ Level 5/6 or equivalent.
  • Membership of IOSH, IIRSM or similar professional body would be advantageous.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working on Data Centre, Mission Critical, Pharmaceutical or Industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and energisation activities.
  • Swedish HSE qualifications or experience working under Swedish health and safety regulations.
  • Behavioural safety programme experience.
  • Mental Health First Aid or wellbeing-related training.
