Planning Engineer

The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity for a Planning Engineer to support the delivery of major construction and data centre projects across Sweden. This role is ideal for candidates seeking to develop their career within a highly technical project environment, working alongside experienced Project Managers, Construction Managers, Commercial Teams, and senior planning professionals.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and reporting of project programmes throughout the project lifecycle, from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover. You will play a key role in monitoring project progress, maintaining programme integrity, identifying potential schedule risks, and providing accurate planning information to support successful project delivery.
The role will be based in Sweden, with Stockholm a potential base depending on project assignment. Flexibility around the specific project location will be considered. Occasional travel to project sites elsewhere in Sweden and across the Nordics may also be required, including visits to the company's Finnish headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Support the development of project baselines covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Level 3 and Level 4 programmes.
- Update project programmes with actual progress and forecast future activities.
- Monitor progress against baseline schedules and key project milestones.
- Produce weekly and monthly programme updates and reports.
- Support critical path analysis and identify potential programme risks.
- Assist with the development of mitigation and recovery plans where required.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers to understand progress and programme requirements.
- Support planning and programme review meetings with project stakeholders.
- Review subcontractor programmes and progress updates.
- Prepare short-term look-ahead programmes to support construction activities.
- Track engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Support resource and productivity monitoring.
- Provide accurate programme information to support commercial and project management teams.
- Assist with delay analysis, programme changes, and extension of time submissions where required.
- Support tender and pre-construction teams with programme development.
- Maintain accurate project planning records and reporting.
- Work with senior planners and project leadership to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Planning Engineer, Project Planner, or in a similar planning/project controls role.
- Good practical experience using Primavera P6.
- Experience developing, updating, and maintaining construction project programmes.
- Understanding of Critical Path Methodology (CPM) and programme logic.
- Experience working with project baselines, progress updates, and programme forecasting.
- Understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery processes.
- Experience working across engineering, procurement, construction, or commissioning activities.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical installation activities is advantageous.
- Experience working with subcontractors and project delivery teams.
- Ability to identify programme risks and potential delays.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex project information.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multinational project teams.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience on Data Centre / Mission Critical projects.
- Experience working for an MEP contractor or technical services organisation.
- Experience on large-scale commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience working within fast-track construction environments.
- Nordic or wider European project experience.
- Experience with Power BI or other project reporting tools.
- Knowledge of BIM-enabled planning or 4D scheduling.
- Understanding of FIDIC, NEC, AB 04, ABT 06, or equivalent construction contracts.
- Professional planning or project controls qualifications.
