Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Field Technician to support electrical testing, commissioning, and field service activities across power and utility projects. This role will primarily support field operations involving low, medium, and high-voltage electrical equipment, with a strong focus on hands-on testing and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of direct field experience and must have personally performed electrical testing and commissioning activities in the field. This is not a supervisory-only role - the client is specifically looking for someone with strong hands-on technical experience.
This position is hybrid based out of the Dallas area, with travel to project sites as needed. Most travel is local/regional, and candidates can realistically expect to be home nightly. Candidates should ideally reside within approximately 45 minutes of the Dallas office.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform electrical testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities on utility and industrial power equipment
- Test and inspect low, medium, and high-voltage breakers
- Perform testing on low and medium-voltage transformers
- Conduct cable testing and diagnostics
- Support relay testing and protection system verification activities
- Test and inspect instrument transformers and switchgear equipment
- Perform ground grid and grounding system testing
- Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and test procedures
- Document test results and prepare field service reports
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to support project execution
- Ensure all testing activities are completed safely and in accordance with company and client standards
- Troubleshoot electrical equipment issues and support corrective action efforts in the field
- Support startup, commissioning, maintenance, and outage-related activities as needed
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of direct hands-on field experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or field service work
- Strong experience testing and troubleshooting utility or industrial electrical equipment
- Experience with:
- Low, medium, and high-voltage breakers
- Low and medium-voltage transformers
- Cable testing
- Instrument transformers
- Switchgear
- Ground testing
- Basic relay testing experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in field environments
