Rig Supervisor
Location: Qatar (Offshore mainly / Onshore as required)Contract Type: 12-month contract, with possibility to extend
Rotation: 28 days on / 28 days off
Working Hours: 12 hours/day (offshore)
Role Overview
The Rig Supervisor will oversee drilling and associated well operations for a major oil & gas operator in Qatar. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of drilling activities while coordinating drilling contractors, service companies, and other site personnel. The successful candidate should have strong hands-on drilling supervision experience, with particular emphasis on offshore and jack-up rig operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day drilling and well-site activities, ensuring operations are executed safely and in accordance with approved drilling programs, procedures, and operating standards.
- Provide onsite leadership and direction to drilling contractors, service companies, and other personnel involved in well operations.
- Monitor drilling performance and operational progress, identifying opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and well delivery.
- Coordinate execution of drilling activities including casing, cementing, directional/horizontal drilling, and other associated well operations.
- Supervise and support complex drilling activities and respond effectively to operational or downhole challenges.
- Ensure appropriate well control practices and procedures are implemented throughout operations.
- Coordinate with drilling/well engineering and other relevant teams to ensure operational plans and work instructions are effectively executed.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with HSE requirements and company procedures.
- Participate in pre-job planning, operational reviews, risk assessments, and safety meetings.
- Ensure accurate daily drilling and operational reporting, including recording of well performance and operational activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure drilling activities are conducted with appropriate consideration for personnel, environmental, and asset safety.
- Provide effective shift handovers and maintain clear communication between offshore/onshore teams and relevant stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in drilling rig supervisory positions, such as Rig Supervisor, Drilling Supervisor, or Wellsite Supervisor.
- Strong offshore drilling experience.
- Demonstrable experience working on jack-up drilling rigs.
- Experience supervising drilling operations on behalf of an oil & gas operator or major drilling organization.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations, well control, casing, cementing, and associated well-site activities.
- Experience with directional and/or horizontal drilling is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working in complex well environments and managing drilling contractors/service providers is preferred.
- Valid Well Control certification (supervisory level / IWCF or equivalent).
- Offshore survival certification appropriate to the assignment is preferred.
- Strong HSE awareness and demonstrated commitment to safe drilling operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience
- Previous Middle East and/or Qatar drilling experience.
- Offshore field development drilling experience.
- Experience with major international or national oil & gas operators.
- Jack-up rig supervision involving directional or horizontal development wells.
- Experience with drilling performance optimization and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with electronic drilling/well reporting systems such as WellView, OpenWells, or equivalent.
- Experience coordinating drilling, completion, testing, or related well operations would be advantageous.
