Part time Data Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineer to join our team on a part-time basis. This opportunity is ideal for a university student currently studying Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, who is looking to gain hands-on industry experience while continuing their studies.
In this role, you will help build and maintain data systems that support analytics, reporting, and product development. You will work alongside experienced team members to develop scalable data pipelines, improve data quality, and contribute to real-world engineering projects.
This position is well-suited to someone who is eager to learn, takes initiative, and has some prior experience through internships, university projects, freelance work, or personal projects in data engineering or software development.
What You'll Do
- Assist in building, maintaining, and improving data pipelines for batch and real-time data processing
- Support the development of data models and database schemas for analytics and operational systems
- Help ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across datasets
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements
- Monitor and troubleshoot data workflows and resolve issues when they arise
- Contribute to improving the performance and scalability of data systems
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Learn and apply best practices in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and system design
Requirements
- Currently studying Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related degree at university
- Some hands-on experience in data engineering, software engineering, analytics engineering, or related technical projects
- Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala
- Understanding of databases, ETL/ELT processes, or data pipelines
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technologies
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage part-time work alongside university studies
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Familiarity with tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Kafka, or dbt
- Understanding of data warehousing or data lake concepts
- Experience working with APIs, large datasets, or automation workflows
- Exposure to Git, CI/CD, or software development best practices
- Personal, academic, or internship projects related to data engineering or analytics
