The Opportunity

We are seeking a Naval Architecture Designer to join an engineering and design team in Rotterdam, working on a range of offshore and floating production projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality, fit-for-purpose, and constructible Naval Architecture designs and deliverables. There is also potential to take on Lead Designer responsibilities for suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate and constructible Naval Architecture design and drawing deliverables in accordance with project requirements.
• Apply technical knowledge and design software to clearly communicate design intent.
• Work closely with Naval Architects, Engineers, and Lead Designers to ensure engineering requirements are fully understood and incorporated into the design.
• Deliver assigned design activities within agreed scope, budget, and schedule.
• Plan and prioritise workload to manage competing deadlines and maintain project progress.
• Provide regular progress updates to the Lead Designer and/or Discipline Manager.
• Organise drawings, documents, and design deliverables for clarity and accessibility.
• Collaborate with Engineers and Designers from other disciplines to resolve design interfaces and conflicts.
• Identify potential design issues early and escalate unresolved technical matters as appropriate.
• Ensure designs are functional, practical, constructible, and suitable for manufacture/fabrication.
• Carry out thorough self-checks to ensure accuracy and quality of deliverables.
• Maintain consistency in drawing standards, symbology, and design practices.
• Support Engineers with the review of vendor documentation and provide technical comments.
• Ensure all design work complies with project specifications, work instructions, codes, standards, and regulations.
• Apply best practices to all design activities.
• Follow Management of Change (MOC) procedures when implementing design changes.
• Continuously develop technical knowledge and competency within Naval Architecture design.

Lead Designer Responsibilities (for suitable candidates)

• Coordinate Naval Architecture design activities and deliverables.
• Plan and allocate design tasks within the discipline.
• Coordinate with Naval Architects, Engineers, and other Lead Designers.
• Monitor progress against project schedules and deadlines.
• Review design deliverables for quality, consistency, and compliance.
• Support the resolution of technical and design interfaces.
• Act as the key design point of contact for assigned Naval Architecture activities.
• Ensure design deliverables are completed to the required quality, budget, and schedule.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification or technical training in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ship Design, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience as a Naval Designer, Naval Architecture Designer, Marine Designer, or similar position.
• Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and design deliverables within an engineering, shipbuilding, or offshore environment.
• Good understanding of Naval Architecture and marine design principles.
• Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and technical requirements and translate them into practical design solutions.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of design interfaces and constructability.
• Good knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
• Experience working with engineering/design software and drawing systems.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate design deliverables.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to project deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience in FPSO, FSO, or floating production units.
• Offshore Oil & Gas project experience.
• Shipbuilding or shipyard environments.
• Marine and offshore engineering.
• Naval Architecture design.
• Detailed vessel design.
• Accommodation and marine equipment design.
• Deck equipment and lifesaving equipment.
• Structural and hull interfaces.
• Experience working on FEED, detailed engineering, or EPCI projects.
• Previous experience as a Lead Designer.
