Fluid and Cement Supervisor / Rig Site Safety Advisor
Working Location
Offshore, rotational base, Qatar
Job Dimensions
Contribute on every well drilled by the Drilling and Completion Department to meet objectives and ensure compliance with company and country codes of practice, while applying HSE best practices.
Offshore field with multiple main production platforms and well satellite platforms, with production wells activated by electrical submersible pumps, supported by water injection wells for reservoir flooding and water source wells.
HSE
- Knowledge of company HSE policy, rules and procedures (HSE MS) and relevant standards.
- Ensure observance of company HSE policy, rules and procedures.
- Participate in HSE activities and continuous improvement (referential, reporting, feedback, audits, trainings, HSE action plans).
Ethics and Compliance
- Demonstrate full compliance with the company code of conduct regarding procurement and business integrity.
- Contribute to and promote compliance with group and affiliate rules and procedures.
- Follow local HSE regulations, laws, rules, and obtain necessary authorizations to operate.
Asset Integrity
- Contribute to asset integrity initiatives by reporting any anomaly, defect, bad practice, lack of equipment, or lack of competence that could result in a major HSE incident or loss of production.
Key Responsibilities
- Give full attention to daily operational activities at the rig, ensuring availability of all products, equipment, and personnel in a timely manner for fluids and cement support of the drilling operations.
- Optimize drilling fluids and cement jobs, and manage consumption and operations.
- Minimize non-productive time related to fluids and cement through operational anticipation, logistics, and supervision.
- Ensure all company rules and guidelines for fluids and cement are followed (including safety stock).
- Conduct and review fluids and cement related programs.
- Ensure no shortage of chemicals versus prognosis through managed inventory.
- Be involved in planning and all logistics relative to operations.
- Ensure safety and security of personnel and installation are applied.
- Supervise execution of plans, programs, and operations, and perform technical and operational feedback and analysis.
- Follow up, analyze, and validate data and reporting of well operations.
- Follow up mud and cement operations on site.
- Analyze risks, anticipate potential issues, and propose alternatives.
- Control service providers performance for safety and efficiency.
- Follow up and control costs of operations within budget and procedures.
- Support the offshore drilling team effort to have no fatalities, no lost time incidents, no blowouts, and no major spills.
- Conduct and drive the development of QHSE performance plans for drilling.
- Relay and promote offshore safety campaigns and initiatives (safety observation cards, perfect days, awareness campaigns).
- Ensure fluid and cement contractor services embrace the company safety culture.
- Lead co-site and safety meeting preparation.
- Be involved in simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) visits and follow-up.
- Complete mandatory safety training and medicals as required.
Context and Environment
- Position is located offshore on a rotational basis.
- Constant link with the mud engineer on board to ensure efficient preparation and follow-up of operations.
- Acts as the technical correspondent for the fluid and cement contracts.
- Maintains a constant link with the safety engineer onboard.
Accountabilities
- Ensure workover and drilling fluids operations are carried out in compliance with company safety standards.
- Ensure drilling and completion fluids operations are performed on time and within budget.
- Participate in operational decision-making.
- Contribute to improving skills and know-how through training and transfer of technology.
- Closely monitor fluids and cement properties.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Education: B.Sc. in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Professional experience: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
- Technical competencies: Strong chemistry, cementing, and drilling mud competencies.
- Behavioural competencies: Ability to work under pressure and in stressful conditions; team player and leader; proactive, bold, creative; able to work in a multicultural environment with cross-functional capabilities.
- Other competencies: Fluent in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
