Engineering Lead (Piping - Field)

Working Location: Qatar Onshore - Doha, Qatar Onshore - Raslaffan
Contract Type: 36-month contract role

Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose
- Responsible for overseeing the EPC Contractor in delivery of all aspects of piping design, equipment, materials, technical and execution definition, including planning and execution of detailed design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning. Ensures technical requirements (e.g., project specifications, data sheets, etc.) developed and implemented during EPC fully comply with project requirements and, through effective collaboration and interfaces, ensures process design considers the full production life cycle.

Reporting and Relationships
- Reports to Engineering Area Manager (Field)
- Direct reports: None

Internal
- Regular interface and collaboration with Engineering Manager, Field Engineering Area Manager, Head of Piping, Head Electrical, Process, Main I&C, Machinery, Mechanical and Civil/Structural Engineers, Head Loss Prevention, Operations Advisor, Engineering Advisors, and Facility Engineer.
- Frequent contact with Operations, SHES, Quality, and Engineering departments.

External
- Continuous interaction with EPC Contractor, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Occasional engagement with Shareholder representatives.

Job Context & Major Challenges
- Responsible for verifying the design and implementation of piping deliverables including large pipe sizes, large valves (e.g., control, motor operated, pressure relief, manual), cryogenic systems, high pressure steam, and high-pressure sour gas services.
- Major challenges include effectively managing the EPC Contractor and Piping Field Engineering team to deliver technical input in accordance with project requirements, maintaining constructive working relationships with the EPC Contractor, its subcontractors and vendors to ensure delivery of work scope in accordance with project requirements, and maintaining relationships with stakeholders (e.g., Operations, SHE, and Quality) to ensure alignment of Piping Engineering deliverables.

Key Job Accountabilities
1. Provide piping engineering knowledge, design, quality assurance, and expertise while managing the piping team in accordance with project deliverables and execution schedule.
2. Direct the preparation and stewardship of piping engineering scope of work in EPC contract, advise and recommend design procedures, processes, deliverables, and alternative studies, as required, to optimize project cost and schedule.
3. Interact with Engineering Team to complete multi-discipline engineering activities, ensuring alignment with the Head of Piping on project engineering needs, objectives, and requirements.
4. Accountable for ensuring execution of work is technically aligned and in compliance with internal operations, policies, standards of business conduct, and project management systems.
5. Manage EPC Contractor's Piping Field Engineering activities including validation of personnel numbers, qualifications, and experience; usage of appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software; adherence to all project objectives, requirements, specifications, standards, procedures, execution plans, and design verification processes.
6. Assess and validate EPC Contractor capability in providing all contract documents, progress measurement and reporting, and recommend additional technical support to address gaps.
7. Manage the technical attachments and scope descriptions for relevant contracts including the timely delivery of all purchase orders.
8. Responsible for the Piping Field Engineering schedule and related milestones, provide data (narrative, charts, graphs, change management recommendations, and recovery plans to address any schedule delays) for monthly progress and stewardship reporting.
9. Develop, review, and amend various policies and procedures to ensure that all piping field engineering references are up to date and relevant.

Requirements

Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Knowledge and/or Experience
- 8 years experience in piping engineering roles, including 4 years in the oil and gas industry, and including 1 year's experience in a supervisory or acting role, or oversight of contractor/subcontractors/service/vendor personnel.
- Preferable field experience in a major LNG project.
- Broad knowledge of engineering execution including design standards, specifications, codes, safety criteria, onshore LNG facilities, and utility systems design, construction, and operations.

- Excellent written and oral English skills.
- Strong organisational, planning, and coordination skills.
- Strong technical, prioritisation, and management skills.
- Good communication, influencing, and interface skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
