Drilling Engineer

Location: Aberdeen, UK (Hybrid)

Assignment Type: Permanent Staff

Overview

Kintec is supporting a leading global energy operator in the search for a Drilling Engineer to join their Wells team based in Aberdeen.

This is a key technical role supporting the design, planning, and execution of offshore wells across the full lifecycle - from early concept and optioneering through to execution and handover. You will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective well solutions, aligned with industry best practice and rigorous engineering standards.

Working within an integrated, multi-disciplinary environment, you will contribute to major offshore developments while supporting continuous improvement, standardisation, and the integration of operational learnings into future well designs.

Key Responsibilities

Well Design & Engineering

  • Develop and maintain detailed well designs, Basis of Design (BoD), and operational programmes
  • Apply fit-for-purpose and right-scoping principles to optimise well delivery and cost efficiency
  • Support concept selection and optioneering activities across complex offshore developments
  • Utilise modelling tools for casing design, hydraulics, torque & drag, and directional planning

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Provide drilling engineering input throughout the full well lifecycle, including execution support
  • Contribute to operational readiness, including well work instructions (WWI) and engineering support during operations
  • Participate in incident response and troubleshooting as required
  • Support regulatory submissions and approvals to ensure timely project delivery

Cost, Risk & Assurance

  • Prepare AFE budgets and cost estimates using benchmarking and offset well analysis
  • Identify and manage well-specific risks, including development of mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and well control practices
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews, equipment assurance, and technical verification activities

Stakeholder & Interface Management

  • Collaborate with subsurface, subsea, project, logistics, and integrity teams
  • Interface with drilling contractors, service companies, and third-party vendors
  • Contribute to technical assurance processes, decision gate reviews, and governance activities
  • Support invoice verification and contract compliance from a technical perspective

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to After Action Reviews and capture lessons learned
  • Support standardisation of engineering practices and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Promote HSSE excellence and operational integrity across all activities

What We're Looking For

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • Valid IWCF or IADC Well Control certification (Supervisor level preferred)

Experience

  • Proven experience in drilling engineering within offshore environments (including rig or floating operations)
  • Strong track record in well design, planning, and execution
  • Experience working within complex, multi-disciplinary project environments
  • Familiarity with EPC/EPCm structures and contractor interfaces

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in well engineering fundamentals (casing design, cementing, directional drilling, hydraulics)
  • Proficiency with Landmark software suite (or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of cost estimation, AFE preparation, and benchmarking
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, permitting, and engineering assurance processes

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on safety, performance, and continuous improvement

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to work with a leading global operator on complex offshore projects
  • Exposure to full well lifecycle delivery within a structured engineering environment
  • Strong career development within a high-performing Wells organisation
  • Flexible hybrid working model based in Aberdeen
