About the Opportunity
A leading global energy technology organisation is seeking a Controls Test Engineer to join their gas services team based in Lincoln. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a world-class engineering environment supporting the manufacture, testing and delivery of advanced gas turbine systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in the verification, testing and troubleshooting of complex control systems, working alongside experienced engineers across electrical, automation and manufacturing disciplines.
The role is ideally suited to an experienced Controls Engineer, Electrical Test Engineer, Automation Engineer or Commissioning Engineer with strong PLC knowledge and hands-on experience working within industrial environments.
The Role
As a Controls Test Engineer, you will be responsible for testing and validating electrical control systems and product components as part of the manufacturing and delivery process. You will work with advanced control technologies, supporting factory-based testing activities, resolving technical issues, improving processes and ensuring systems meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute electrical and controls testing activities in line with production requirements.
- Carry out fault finding and technical investigations on complex control systems.
- Test and validate control panels, electrical assemblies and associated systems.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities, including customer witness testing.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including test specifications, procedures and I/O documentation.
- Review electrical drawings, schematics and system documentation.
- Identify design improvements and recommend solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing and testing operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including engineering, design, project teams, suppliers and customers.
- Support cabinet build and module testing activities when required.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and organisation within the workplace.
About You
We are looking for an experienced electrical and controls professional with a strong background in industrial automation, testing or commissioning environments.
You will ideally have:
- A recognised electrical/electronic engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent).
- Electrical apprenticeship or time-served engineering background.
- Experience working with PLC-based control systems.
- Strong knowledge of Siemens PLC platforms including Siemens S7 / PCS7.
- Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix or Rockwell Automation platforms would be advantageous.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and modify PLC programs.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics.
- Experience supporting testing, commissioning or manufacturing environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, customers and project stakeholders.
