JOB PURPOSE (Why the position exists)
- Responsible for management of welding activities (engineering, operation, procedure qualifications, mobilization) for project execution.
- Act as part of the department's core group, providing technical expertise and driving technical improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS
- Degree in any engineering discipline (preferably welding, mechanical, materials, or metallurgy).
- International Welding Engineer or AWS Certified Welding Engineer certification or Chartered Engineer in Welding Engineering or equivalent.
- CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 is an advantage but not mandatory.
- NDT certifications are an advantage but not mandatory.
- Coating certifications are an advantage but not mandatory.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Responsible for welding engineering and operations, including interface with internal project teams and client.
- Review contractual documents and specifications (welding, NDT, line pipe, field joint coating). Provide relevant technical evaluation, deviations, and clarifications for project execution and bidding/tendering.
- Review project-specific welding, NDT, and field joint coating programs, execution plans, method statements, schedules, weld maps, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and relevant documentation (qualification and installation).
- Work closely with welding, NDT, coating, and operation teams to optimize installation productivity and supervision of installation cycle time (station and activity wise), weld cut-out, weld repair, and downtime.
- Develop robust welding procedures to maximize offshore production and minimize weld repairs and cut-outs.
- Determine quantities for all welding-related consumables required during project qualification and execution.
- Participate in risk management of welding execution. Provide technical resolution for any qualification or installation operational issues related to welding, NDT, and quality control.
- Monitor project cost and schedule to remain within allocated budget and deadlines, including tracking of planned versus actual execution.
- Prepare and review deliverables with the Project Support Engineer as part of project preparation and execution.
- Provide ad hoc support for NDT and coating activities during project execution, including during offshore installation.
- Prepare the welding close-out report after project execution, including production performance analysis, lessons learned, and personnel evaluation.
- Provide ad hoc support for yard fabrication for project installation aids and fabricated items if required.
- Manage with the Project Support Engineer the evaluation forms and feedback forms from/to subcontractors and vendors.
- Store and maintain in real time all project documentation in the department shared drive.
- Adhere at all times to company policies, Management System Operating Procedures, and corporate QHSE and departmental procedures. Contribute to improvement of departmental processes. Meet KPIs, deliverables, and initiatives set by management.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 - 7 years of working experience in welding, NDT, and QC.
- Experience in welding, NDT, destructive testing (including corrosion and fracture mechanics), line pipe and fitting manufacturing, and inspection for the oil and gas industry.
- Experience with pipelines (carbon steel and corrosion-resistant alloys), subsea structures, and structural offshore/onshore installation.
- Experience in project bidding/tendering (technical, cycle time/lay rate, and commercial).
- Worldwide experience in managing key clients in the energy sector.
- Experience in teamwork and ideally in a team leader role (at least short-term leadership experience).
- Minimum of three (3) years working experience as an Engineer, preferably in the oil and gas fabrication industry.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Familiar with international codes and standards such as API, ASTM, AWS, BS, AISC, and major client specifications.
- Familiar with PDMS and other relevant 3D modelling software.
- Able to conduct engineering analysis and read engineering drawings.
- Engineering Design (Level 3).
