Job Purpose

The Welding and Project Coordination Support (WPCS) Engineer works closely with the Welding and Project Coordination (WPC) Engineer / Senior Welding and Project Coordination (SWPC) Engineer and is responsible for project support covering documentation, procurement, and subcontracting scopes for activities managed by the WCI Department.

This role forms part of the department's core technical group, supporting bidding and tendering activities, the development of junior engineers and graduate trainees, and providing support to other departments where required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Issue the scope of works and requisition orders to project supply chain management for welding, non-destructive testing (NDT), field joint coating (FJC), general firing line items, welding consumables, welding gas, engineering critical assessment (ECA), and mechanical and corrosion testing.
  • Issue technical bid evaluations (TBE) for welding, NDT, FJC, general firing line items, welding consumables, welding gas, ECA, mechanical and corrosion testing.
  • Manage the project documentation issuance related to welding, NDT, FJC, ECA, mechanical and corrosion testing activities, including qualification registers for welders and NDT technicians.
  • Consolidate project quality documentation for issuance and distribution related to welding, NDT, FJC, ECA, mechanical and corrosion testing activities, including qualification registers for welders and NDT technicians.
  • Maintain the project document register and report document status in line with project or departmental requirements.
  • Monitor project welder register and welding procedure specification (WPS) register together with the WPC / SWPC Engineers.
  • Prepare the cost control summary for project activities under the WCI Department.
  • Input project progress data for weekly and monthly project reports as required.
  • Support and participate in tendering, kick-off and progress meetings as required.
  • Provide governance of document control to ensure proper documentation records and updates.
  • Contribute to WCI Department objectives to meet key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collect and prepare reviews of lessons learned from projects for internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure proper storage of project documentation in the WCI shared drive.

Qualifications / Certifications

  • Degree in an engineering discipline (welding, mechanical, materials, or metallurgy preferred).
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of working experience in project support activities.
  • Experience in welding, NDT, FJC, and mechanical testing in industry, line pipe and fitting manufacturing, and inspection, preferably within oil and gas, onshore and offshore pipeline installation, and offshore structure installation.
  • Experience in project document control management, procurement processes, audit processes, and quality management.
  • Good communication skills; proactive, committed, energetic, and a problem solver; able to work independently as well as within a team in a multicultural environment.

Required Skills

  • Sound knowledge of project management, quality control, and document control.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team and with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ability to participate in and lead conference calls with varied audiences.
  • Ability to manage project package cost, schedule, and deadlines.
