Job Purpose

As a Senior / Lead Process Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing industrial processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, safety, and profitability. This role combines extensive technical knowledge with leadership skills to mentor junior staff, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across various industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Quality Management Systems aligned with client requirements, international standards (such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001), and local regulations.
  • Design and optimize processes, including performing simulations and design calculations to meet operational goals.
  • Review and endorse contractors' procedures, conduct audits and inspections, and ensure compliance with project safety specifications and legal requirements.
  • Develop safety protocols, conduct process safety analyses (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA), and ensure all designs meet industry safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with quality standards, track non-compliance issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage inspection and testing activities (NDE, pressure testing, welding, coating) on project sites, coordinating with third-party inspection agencies and client representatives.
  • Identify and resolve process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and unexpected issues using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop and deliver quality training programs, safety inductions, and awareness campaigns to build a strong safety culture.
  • Develop, coordinate, and test emergency response plans, including conducting drills with internal teams and external emergency services.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on quality performance data and KPIs, using trends to suggest improvement plans.
  • Monitor and manage environmental aspects of the project, including waste management and pollution prevention, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and permits.
  • Act as the main interface between the Owner/Client, EPC contractor, vendors, and third parties.
  • Review and approve EPC contractor safety procedures, method statements, and testing protocols.
  • Identify commissioning risks and implement mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate HAZOP, HAZID, SIMOPS, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Enforce safe work practices during energization, first oil/gas, or equipment start-up.
  • Coordinate vendor site support, start-up specialists, and OEM representatives.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years' experience with EPC phases: FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
  • At least 8 years' experience in oil and gas industries.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a related designation or specialty.
  • Experience managing multi-licenser units.
  • Experience working on EPC and PMC phases of major capital projects.

  • Technical expertise in process simulations, equipment design, and control systems.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate data and identify process improvements.
  • Problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving production challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills to guide junior engineers and lead process improvement initiatives.
