Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Physical Modelling Engineer to support the design, planning, coordination, and execution of physical modelling studies for coastal and marine engineering projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing physical modelling methodologies, planning test programmes, coordinating laboratory activities, analysing test data, and supporting the delivery of technically complex coastal and hydraulic engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and execution of physical modelling studies for coastal, marine, and hydraulic engineering projects.

  • Develop physical modelling methodologies, scaling approaches, testing procedures, instrumentation layouts, and analysis methods in accordance with project requirements and industry best practices.

  • Support preparation of technical and commercial proposals, including methodologies, project scope, schedules, and resource requirements.

  • Coordinate with clients, design consultants, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution.

  • Coordinate model construction activities, fabrication requirements, testing schedules, resource allocation, and laboratory priorities.

  • Coordinate with laboratory and technical teams to ensure readiness of testing equipment, instrumentation, and laboratory facilities.

  • Support supervision of physical model construction, calibration, testing, data collection, interpretation, and reporting.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Graduate Engineers.

  • Prepare and review physical model layouts, instrumentation plans, testing procedures, and engineering methodologies.

  • Analyse, validate, and interpret laboratory test data to ensure technical accuracy and consistency.

  • Prepare technical reports, engineering recommendations, and client presentations.

  • Support troubleshooting during model construction, instrumentation, testing, and analysis activities.

  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, laboratory safety procedures, quality standards, and operational processes.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of physical modelling techniques, laboratory capabilities, and testing methodologies.

  • Participate in technical meetings, workshops, and client presentations as required.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent discipline.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.

  • PhD in Coastal, Maritime, or Hydraulic Engineering is advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of engineering and design experience within coastal, marine, or hydraulic engineering.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working within hydraulic laboratories and physical modelling of coastal and marine structures.

  • Experience designing and executing physical modelling studies for:

    • Breakwaters

    • Quay Walls

    • Coastal Protection Works

    • Ports

    • Marine Infrastructure Projects

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and laboratory operations.

  • Experience supporting laboratory testing activities and engineering analysis.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of coastal and hydraulic physical modelling techniques.

  • Good understanding of laboratory testing methodologies and marine engineering principles.

  • Strong knowledge of wave hydrodynamics, coastal processes, and physical model scaling laws.

  • Experience preparing technical proposals and coordinating engineering projects.

  • Ability to coordinate laboratory operations, construction teams, instrumentation specialists, and technical personnel.

  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Familiarity with instrumentation systems, data acquisition systems, and engineering analysis tools.

  • Knowledge of HSE regulations, laboratory safety standards, and quality assurance procedures.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).

  • Arabic is advantageous.

  • Additional languages are beneficial.

IT Skills

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint).

  • AutoCAD.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic modelling software, data analysis tools, and reporting systems is advantageous.
