Overview

We are seeking a Graduate Physical Modelling Engineer to support the design, setup, execution, and reporting of physical modelling studies for coastal and marine engineering projects.

Working within a specialist engineering and laboratory environment, the successful candidate will assist with physical modelling methodologies, laboratory testing, data analysis, and technical reporting while supporting the delivery of coastal and hydraulic engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop practical experience in physical modelling and laboratory operations under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and execution of physical modelling studies for coastal, marine, and hydraulic engineering projects.

  • Assist in preparing physical model layouts, testing procedures, instrumentation plans, and analysis methodologies under the supervision of senior engineers.

  • Support the setup, calibration, operation, and monitoring of physical model testing activities.

  • Participate in data collection, validation, analysis, and interpretation of test results.

  • Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, engineering calculations, and project documentation.

  • Coordinate with laboratory personnel regarding model setup, testing schedules, operational requirements, and resource planning.

  • Coordinate with technical teams to support the readiness and functionality of laboratory equipment, instrumentation systems, and testing infrastructure.

  • Support troubleshooting of operational and technical issues during model construction and testing activities.

  • Ensure compliance with HSE procedures, laboratory safety requirements, quality standards, and operational procedures.

  • Participate in technical meetings, workshops, and project discussions.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for physical modelling techniques, testing procedures, and laboratory operations.

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, records, and project files.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent discipline.

  • Master's degree in Coastal, Maritime, Hydraulic, or a related engineering discipline is advantageous.

Experience

  • 0-3 years of experience within coastal, marine, hydraulic, or related engineering industries.

  • Academic or practical exposure to hydraulic laboratories, physical modelling, coastal engineering, or marine engineering is preferred.

  • Familiarity with laboratory testing activities, engineering calculations, and technical reporting is advantageous.

  • Internship or graduate trainee experience within coastal or hydraulic engineering projects is beneficial.

Technical Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of coastal and hydraulic engineering principles.

  • Understanding of physical modelling concepts.

  • Knowledge of wave hydrodynamics, coastal processes, and laboratory testing principles is preferred.

  • Good analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and laboratory teams.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to develop knowledge of physical modelling techniques, instrumentation systems, and testing methodologies.

  • Familiarity with engineering calculations, technical reporting, and data analysis.

  • Basic understanding of HSE regulations, laboratory safety requirements, and quality procedures.

  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and support project activities within planned schedules.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).

  • Arabic is advantageous.

  • Additional languages are beneficial.

IT Skills

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • AutoCAD.

  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools, hydraulic modelling software, and reporting systems is advantageous.
