Head of Welding, Coating and Inspection

About the Opportunity

A leading offshore engineering and energy organization is seeking an experienced Head of Welding, Coating and Inspection to lead and develop a centralized technical department supporting global EPCI and Transportation and Installation projects.

This senior leadership role will oversee welding engineering, coating, quality control and non-destructive testing functions across offshore and subsea project execution activities. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, technical governance, project delivery performance and departmental capability development while ensuring alignment with international industry standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all Welding, Coating, Quality Control and NDT activities across offshore and subsea project operations
  • Establish and develop departmental structures, technical processes and execution strategies to support global project delivery
  • Oversee welding engineering, coating inspection, quality control and NDT coordination activities for EPCI and offshore installation projects
  • Support project bidding and tendering activities including technical reviews, execution methodology, cycle time analysis and cost validation
  • Ensure sufficient qualified personnel and technical resources are available to support project execution requirements
  • Monitor departmental workload, manpower planning and operational performance
  • Develop and maintain offshore operational procedures, technical standards and departmental work processes
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to quality performance, operational efficiency and project delivery
  • Lead HSE initiatives and promote strong safety culture across all departmental functions
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations and project specifications
  • Support development and management of key subcontractors, vendors and technical partners
  • Manage departmental KPIs, technical governance and performance improvement activities
  • Support succession planning, team development and technical competency growth across the department
  • Coordinate interfaces between engineering, project management, operations and commercial teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Metallurgy
  • Minimum 12 to 15 years of experience in welding, coating, quality control, NDT and metallurgy within offshore oil and gas projects
  • Strong experience supporting EPCI and offshore Transportation and Installation projects
  • Experience with offshore pipelines, subsea structures, CRA materials and structural fabrication activities
  • Strong technical knowledge of welding engineering, coating systems, inspection and destructive testing methods
  • Experience with corrosion engineering, fracture mechanics and Engineering Critical Assessment activities
  • Experience supporting project bidding, tendering and technical-commercial evaluations
  • Strong understanding of offshore project execution, cost control and operational risk management
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams within international project environments
  • Previous experience working with major international energy operators and contractors is highly preferred
  • International Welding Engineer, AWS Certified Welding Engineer or equivalent certification is advantageous
  • Additional certifications or memberships related to Quality and NDT are beneficial
