Job Purpose
The Fluids and Cement Superintendent is responsible for the safe, technical, and operational success of all drilling fluids, completion fluids, wellbore clean-up, and cementing operations. This role involves engineering design, operational oversight, and contractor management to support high-performance offshore drilling campaigns.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Engineering & Planning
- Design and optimize fluid formulations, mud programs, and cementing designs for complex offshore wells.
- Review and approve hydraulic simulations, cement slurry formulations, and spacer designs.
- Ensure all fluid and cement programs align with well integrity standards and geological challenges.
- Drive the implementation of new technologies to reduce downhole losses and improve zonal isolation.

Operational Oversight & Execution
- Provide 24/7 technical and operational support to offshore rig teams during critical fluid and cementing operations.
- Monitor real-time drilling data to diagnose and troubleshoot downhole fluid or cement placement issues.
- Review and approve operational changes, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and management of change (MOC) documents.
- Oversee wellbore clean-up and filtration operations prior to well completion phases.

Contractor & Supply Chain Management
- Manage technical contracts for fluids, cementing, and offshore waste management service companies.
- Audit service provider laboratories, mixing plants, and offshore equipment to ensure quality control.
- Monitor inventory levels of bulk cement, additives, chemicals, and mud materials to prevent rig downtime.
- Evaluate contractor performance through regular Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reviews.

HSE & Compliance
- Ensure all fluid systems and waste disposal methods comply with Qatar's environmental regulations and company HSE policies.
- Promote a culture of safety, zero spills, and hazard identification across all fluid and cementing activities.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and risk assessments (HAZOP/HAZID).
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Petroleum, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in drilling and completion operations, with at least 5 years at superintendent level.
- Industry Exposure: Proven track record in offshore oil and gas operations; experience in the Arabian Gulf region is highly preferred.
- Certification: Valid IWCF Well Control certification (Surface/Subsea Supervisor level) is an asset.
- Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Deep expertise in water-based muds (WBM), oil-based muds (OBM), completion fluids, and HPHT well engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of API standards for drilling fluids and oilfield cementing practices.
- Proficiency in industry software (e.g., Landmark Compass, WellPlan, CEMPRO, or equivalents).
- Strong negotiation, contract management, and budgeting skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, with strong technical reporting capabilities.
