Job Purpose
Provide technical leadership and discipline support for Instrumentation & Control (I&C) engineering activities throughout integrated FEED and EPC phases of a major oil & gas project. Ensure engineering designs, studies and deliverables comply with applicable industry standards, safety requirements and operational objectives.
The role supports technical assurance, discipline capability, resource planning and the evaluation/approval of technical deviations, while providing technical guidance to project teams and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead I&C engineering activities and ensure design deliverables comply with approved project specifications, industry standards, safety requirements and quality expectations.
- Coordinate and provide technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams and EPC contractors to ensure timely completion of I&C engineering deliverables.
- Direct contractors in developing execution plans and schedules, reviewing progress, identifying schedule risks, and developing appropriate recovery plans.
- Provide I&C technical expertise to other engineering disciplines and advise management on discipline-specific technical matters.
- Manage technical interfaces between key vendors and EPC contractors to ensure alignment with quality, execution and project delivery milestones.
- Represent the I&C discipline during major project assurance and safety reviews, including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and SAFOP.
- Prepare high-quality technical documentation supporting FEED and execution phases, including project gate reviews.
- Support discipline leadership in maintaining engineering standards, technical assurance frameworks and compliance across project activities.
- Review, approve, and endorse technical deviations, waivers and variations from approved I&C guidelines, codes, standards and practices within delegated authority.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, including:
- At least 4 years within the Oil & Gas industry.
- At least 1 year in a supervisory/acting role, or experience overseeing contractor, subcontractor, service provider or vendor personnel.
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, including:
- Basic knowledge of Hexagon SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Experience covering project development studies, FEED and Detailed Engineering.
- Experience with selection and handling of field and control-room instrumentation/telecommunication systems and packages, including DCS, ESD, SCADA, F&G, fibre-optic and radio communication systems.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities during FEED and Detailed Engineering and managing associated contracts.
- Experience in commissioning, start-up and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control and telecommunication equipment within oil & gas processing facilities.
- Knowledge of applicable international engineering standards.
Key Skills
Excellent written and spoken English, strong organisational and communication skills, good analytical and problem-solving capability, advanced computer literacy including relevant technical applications, and knowledge of Document Control and Information Management processes.
Stakeholder & Contractor Interface
This position requires regular engagement with project leadership, operations and other internal disciplines, as well as external stakeholders, vendors, EPC contractors, suppliers and third-party service providers.
A key requirement is the ability to manage contractor engineering performance while maintaining effective stakeholder relationships throughout project execution.
