Construction Division Manager
Location: Doha, QatarContract Type: Contract
Job Purpose
Manage all demolition and construction activities for the assigned scope of works on the Barzan Restoration Project, from participation in detailed damage assessment and demolition of structures and equipment requiring replacement, through to construction activities and hand-over back to Operations in accordance with the handover sequence. Ensure close oversight of onsite contractors and subcontractors, verify daily activities under the reimbursable scope, and maintain control of the schedule and key project and progress milestones for both demolition and reconstruction works.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and approve demolition plans, construction execution and related procedures, specifications, deliverables, and progress reporting prepared by the main contractor.
- Develop processes that enable the project to execute scopes of work in both greenfield and brownfield environments.
- Promote collaboration and cooperation with the operations team to enable both project and operations to execute their respective works in close collaboration.
- Undertake complex tasks and act as a source of guidance to the team and stakeholders by providing solutions and support without unnecessary micro-management.
- During the reimbursable phase, implement and enforce verification measures of contractor daily headcount and equipment on site and in use to ensure efficiency and value.
- Identify problems quickly, determine root causes, and develop plans to mitigate or resolve them.
- Bring technical and execution solutions that favour a safe demolition phase and flawless construction execution and transition to commissioning activities.
- Organize and drive efforts of the team and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Work effectively within established procedures and participate in all important meetings and workshops (e.g., weekly and monthly meetings, 3D model reviews, constructability, traffic and completion reviews, and lessons learned).
- Guide EPC construction efforts of approximately 3,000 workers during demolition and construction activities at site works, striving to achieve best-in-class safety, health, environmental, and security performances by fostering a culture of excellence.
- Ensure all activities are undertaken in compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality policies, regulations, and standards.
- Contribute to the development of local national employees.
- Ensure all activities comply with anti-trust and competition laws and firewall policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in sciences or engineering.
- Minimum 12 years' experience with large projects in construction-related disciplines (e.g., construction, installation, fabrication, execution, completion, hook-up, etc.) in the oil & gas industry, including at least 3 years of management-level experience with overall responsibility for an EPC execution.
- Experience with oil and gas companies, contractors, service companies, or heavy construction companies.
- Broad and extensive knowledge of design standards, specifications, codes, and safety criteria related to major fabrication, transport, installation, brownfield execution, and hook-up.
- Extensive knowledge of execution methods and risks associated with sour gas and LNG production facilities.
- Experience working in large-scale operating organizations in operations and projects.
- Proven track record of project delivery in the industry and managing EPC contractors and sub-contractors.
- Excellent track record in construction safety results.
- Proven experience with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) methodology and systems completion management and associated databases.
- Inventive approach to construction execution and methods, with experience from other large and complex projects, particularly LNG plants.
- Experience with major and first-tier EPC contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors in the oil and gas industry.
- Ability to influence technical decisions to achieve flawless construction execution and transition to commissioning.
- Experience with multi-cultural projects; experience in demolition projects and brownfield scopes is preferred.
- Technical background as a discipline engineer and experience as a project engineer, field engineer, construction superintendent, or manager with solid project execution experience.
- Strong background in fabrication, construction, and management of brownfield and greenfield construction activities.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage workload, work with accuracy, take initiative, be inventive, and multi-task.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
