Wellsite Geologist
Location: Paramaribo, Suriname (Offshore)

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off (7 days worked per week, 12 hours per day)

Job Description
Supervise geological operations at the rig site in close collaboration with the Subsurface team and operational personnel. Responsibilities include well operations and acquisition program follow-up, coordination and supervision of contracted services at the rig site, real-time data QA/QC, basic real-time interpretation, and post-well analysis. Key contributor to delivering drilling operations on time, within budget, and under safe conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to safe operations through efficient real-time identification of drilling hazards.
- Ensure proper follow-up and interpretation of geological acquisitions onsite and close supervision of service companies linked to Geoscience (Mud Logging, M-LWD, E-Logging, and Coring).
- Ensure the security and integrity of well data acquisition.
- Apply all safety procedures and orders as decided by the drilling supervisor.
- Responsible for the quality of all Geosciences data acquired on wells.
- Apply well site standard procedures and standing orders for data acquisition and safety.
- Provide complete and pertinent reporting from rig site operations to the local office.
- Ensure proper communication between mud logging/wireline personnel and drilling crews.
- Participate in the identification and evaluation of drilling hazards (losses, gains, overpressure, swelling clays, etc.) through real-time interpretation of all available data (mudlogging, LWD, MWD, etc.).
- Perform all geological surveillance tasks, from show and cuttings descriptions to drawing up final composite logs and well reports, always applying company standards.
- In agreement with management, and in collaboration with other entities, make decisions regarding coring points, intermediate logging, and drilling sections TD for casing points.
- Demonstrate knowledge in real-time mudlogging follow-up (mainly GWD gas data and drilling parameters) and M-LWD data QA/QC, primary validation and interpretation, for well trajectory follow-up, geosteering, reservoir entry/exit detection, and drilling phase/well TD decision purposes.
- Attend on-site daily/weekly meetings and discuss geosciences information with the drilling supervisor to enhance drilling operation efficiency and safety.
- Supervise contractor performance for all services associated with geological operations at the rig site, including checking the quality and reliability of equipment, spare parts, consumables, and crew performance.
- Work closely with other supervisors at the rig site to build a cohesive and efficient team.
- Participate in pre-job meetings before each drilling section, especially before specific operations such as coring, wireline logging, and well tests.
- Contribute to the elaboration, QA/QC, and dispatching of all technical reports related to new technology use or when uncommon environmental or operational conditions are encountered.
- Prepare the End of Well Report within the given time and ensure its distribution to all entities and partners.
- Ensure dispatching from rig to base of any rock and/or fluid samples recovered during the well.
HSE Activities
- Ensure the application and respect of HSE rules and procedures for geological operations at the rig site.
- Be proactive in HSE matters by participating in the "stop card" system and reporting all incidents, accidents, and/or potentially dangerous situations observed.
Requirements
- Good communication skills, willingness to learn and share, awareness, and management of risks.
- Field operational experience: at least 5-7 years in operations geology, with at least 3-5 years as a wellsite geologist; experience in onshore or offshore drilling, including deviated/horizontal complex wells.
- Certification in Subsurface Operations Geology.
- BTS (BAC+2) geology orientation or higher (with relevant experience in Operations Geology).
- Fluent in English.
