Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field execution on a major heavy civil infrastructure project in Newark, New Jersey.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising on-site construction activities to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and design requirements.

This role is suited to a senior field construction professional with extensive experience on large-scale infrastructure projects involving concrete, structural steel, piling, and complex site coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise construction activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with design requirements, budget, schedule, and quality standards.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage day-to-day site operations.

  • Coordinate subcontractors, craft labour, equipment, materials, and construction sequencing.

  • Ensure subcontractors and field teams comply with contract documents, approved procedures, and project requirements.

  • Monitor use of labour, materials, and equipment to support productivity and project performance.

  • Provide technical assistance and interpretation of construction drawings and specifications.

  • Recommend appropriate construction methods, sequencing, equipment, and field solutions.

  • Support development and maintenance of project schedules.

  • Assist project management with site logistics planning and implementation.

  • Support development and implementation of project procedures, standards, and working documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with the Site-Specific Safety Plan and applicable safety requirements.

  • Coordinate regularly with client and owner representatives on site.

  • Identify construction issues, schedule risks, and potential delays and support timely resolution.

  • Maintain strong communication with project management, subcontractors, field teams, and stakeholders.

  • Support quality control, inspection, and field documentation requirements throughout construction.

  • Perform additional field management responsibilities as required by project leadership.

Requirements

  • Extensive supervisory field experience on large-scale heavy civil infrastructure construction projects.

  • Strong experience delivering major projects with values in excess of approximately USD 200 million.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, General Superintendent, or senior craft supervisor.

  • Strong background in new-build structures including piling, reinforced concrete, and structural steel.

  • Thorough knowledge of US construction methods, techniques, standards, and field practices.

  • Experience coordinating large subcontractor and craft workforces.

  • Strong understanding of contract documents, construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.

  • Knowledge of contract administration and field construction management.

  • Familiarity with local trades, unions, and craft labour environments is advantageous.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to manage complex site activities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience with construction management and field documentation platforms.

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam and estimating or construction planning tools.

  • Strong ability to interpret drawings, schedules, and construction documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with municipal, state, or federal government clients.

  • Experience on transportation, rail, airport, bridge, tunnel, or major public infrastructure projects.

  • OSHA certification.

  • First Aid certification.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
