Senior Mining Engineer
Location: Kainantu, Papua New Guinea
Role Purpose
To lead, mentor and develop the Mine engineering team in the provision of medium term and/or strategic mine planning as well as undertaking a range of short-term production and capital projects under Mine Technical Services Department.
Role Accountabilities
1. Technical support
- Ensure the effective completion of all medium, long term and/or strategic mine planning activities for underground operations, including production scheduling, reconciliation, reporting, underground mine optimisation, design, cost estimations, along with conduct of meetings, and supervision, development and mentoring of mine planning and projects engineers.
- Ensure effective design and development of mining projects as required.
- Ensure that technical projects are progressed in a timely manner. Optimize operational mining efficiency, maintaining cost control and maximizing production.
- Provide information on all areas of this section in reports and meetings as required on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, or as otherwise required by the Superintendent.
- Develop and submit for approval operating mine design plans that are compatible with site targets and goals.
- Conceptual long to short range mine ventilation designs and simulation via ventsim visual simulator.
- Provide advice to the operations on short to medium term strategic plan to meet the business targets.
- Mentor, train and up-skill Mine Engineers and Graduate Mining Engineers
- Ensure projects are accurately scoped, budgeted, planned and progress efficiently.
- Collaborate with mine operational and engineering teams to ensure alignment with the mine schedule and plan.
- Maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with government and company policy.
2. Planning
- Ensure all aspects of mining operations design and planning comply with Company policy and statutory requirements including health and safety, environment, and agreement with landowners.
- Ensure that technical projects are progressed in a timely manner. Optimize operational mining efficiency, maintaining cost control and maximizing production.
- Develop and submit for approval operating mine design plans that are compatible with site targets and goals.
- Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
3. Safety
- Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture.
- Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
- Perform general housekeeping within and around responsible work area.
Person Specification
Qualifications (essential and desirable):
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution.
Required Knowledge and Experience (essential and desirable):
- Thorough knowledge of the PNG Mine Safety Act and Regulations.
- Sound experience in mining engineering, preferably in an underground environment.
- Prior experience in leading a team of junior engineers.
- High degree of competency in computer applications including Excel, Word and Deswik.
- Mining operational experience and five plus (5+) years' appropriate technical experience in a similar role.
- Proven multitasking skills and can work under extreme pressure.
- Good analytical and teamwork skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills as well as good organizational and administrative skills.
