Senior Data Engineer for BI Team

Location: Warsaw, Poland
Start Date: 1st November 2026
End Date: 30th April 2027
Work Style: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, Hybrid (Minimum 2 days per week in Warsaw office)

Role Objective

Act as the data engineering expert and technical lead within a team primarily composed of Business Intelligence developers. Take ownership of the data engineering area, identify technical gaps and risks, and proactively recommend improvements. Build reliable data pipelines, transformations, and data models that support effective Power BI reporting and business insight. Work independently following an initial structured onboarding and challenge existing solutions where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical ownership and leadership across the team's data engineering activities.
  • Design, build, and improve data pipelines, transformations, and data models.
  • Identify technical gaps, delivery risks, and opportunities to improve performance, quality, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot issues end to end, from source systems and ingestion through to reporting outputs.
  • Provide technical guidance to BI developers and other team members.
  • Collaborate effectively with Power BI developers, architects, and business stakeholders.

Tasks

  • Assess the existing data-engineering setup and establish a clear understanding of current pipelines, models, dependencies, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain SQL-based transformations and robust data models.
  • Use Python or comparable programming languages to support data processing, automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and improve workflows using Azure data services, Azure Data Factory, and/or Airflow.
  • Investigate data-quality, pipeline, and reporting issues across the full technical chain.
  • Review existing solutions, ask appropriate technical questions, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Support technical decision-making within the BI-focused team without direct line-management responsibility.

Deliverables

  • Reliable and maintainable data pipelines, transformations, and data models.
  • Documented technical-gap, risk, and improvement recommendations.
  • Resolved end-to-end data and reporting issues.
  • Technical guidance that strengthens the data-engineering capability of the BI team.

Decision Authority / Responsibility

  • Own assigned data-engineering solutions and recommend appropriate technical approaches within the agreed architecture.
  • Challenge existing solutions where this will improve reliability, quality, maintainability, or delivery outcomes.
  • Identify and escalate material technical risks, dependencies, and data-quality issues.
  • This is a hands-on technical leadership role within a BI-focused team and does not include management of a separate data-engineering team.

Requirements

  • Strong senior-level data engineering experience, including advanced SQL and data modelling.
  • Hands-on experience with Python or a comparable programming language.
  • Experience with Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, and/or Airflow.
  • Good understanding of Power BI and reporting environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and end-to-end troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to work independently, take technical ownership, and make well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Proactive mindset, technical leadership capability, and strong communication skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with BI developers, architects, and stakeholders.
  • Available to work from the Warsaw office at least two days per week and attend additionally where reasonably required for delivery, collaboration, workshops, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Remote work must be performed from Poland unless prior approval is expressly granted.
  • Successful completion of an extended background check is required before onboarding.
