Role Objective

Deliver and maintain a stable, secure, scalable, and high-performing compute and storage foundation for operational technology systems. Support both virtual and physical server platforms used by SCADA services, focusing on continuous availability, recoverability, and operational resilience. Implement effective backup and disaster-recovery arrangements and keep server platforms modern through disciplined lifecycle engineering. Work independently across the delivery lifecycle while coordinating closely with operational, security, infrastructure, and supplier teams.

Mandatory Security Experience

  • Good practical knowledge of and experience with Trend Micro Deep Security or a directly comparable enterprise workload-security solution.
  • Basic familiarity with Splunk, Syslog, or similar logging or monitoring tools.
  • Both requirements must be clearly demonstrated in your CV. Applications that do not evidence this experience will not meet the essential criteria.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Engineer, deploy, and manage the lifecycle of virtual and physical operational technology server environments.
  • Assess server lifecycles and develop maintenance, upgrade, replacement, and migration roadmaps.
  • Plan and execute server replacements and migrations while protecting service continuity and data integrity.
  • Design and validate backup, restore, high-availability, and failover arrangements for business-critical platforms.
  • Monitor server performance, health, and capacity proactively and identify improvements before they affect operations.
  • Analyse incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective, preventive, and proactive infrastructure improvements.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, acceptance testing, and operational-readiness exercises.
  • Plan and record assigned tasks, technical changes, results, and operational knowledge.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and provide evidence for internal and external audits.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Good practical experience with Windows and Linux system administration.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualisation technologies such as VMware and vSAN.
  • Basic understanding of operational technology networks and the requirements of business-critical industrial environments.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware, including platforms from Dell, HPE, or IBM.
  • Expertise in backup, disaster recovery, and patch-management solutions such as Veeam.
  • Proficiency with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, certificates, and domain-services integration in Windows Server environments.
  • Ability to maintain and upgrade server infrastructure throughout its lifecycle, including controlled replacements and migrations.
  • Experience preparing detailed server architecture, configuration, procedure, and support documentation.
  • Ability to support supplier evaluation and technical solution-validation activities.
  • PowerShell or similar automation experience is advantageous but not essential.

Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical ability and a proactive, structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to connect technical requirements with operational needs.
  • Ability to take end-to-end ownership while collaborating effectively with multiple internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Documentation-focused, organised, and dependable, with a consistent commitment to high-quality delivery.

Education and Screening

  • Degree in IT Infrastructure, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • The role may become subject to security clearance, and candidates must be able to meet the applicable screening requirements.

Additional Information

  • The assignment may be extended into 2027, subject to budget approval and extension request.
