QC Inspector (Welding, NDT & Painting)
Location: Qatar (site based)Contract Type: Contract role until 31/05/2029
Work Schedule: 6 days per week
Key Responsibilities
- Familiarize with project specifications and inspection documentation to ensure understanding of contract requirements.
- Implement quality inspection procedures on construction activities, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications and technical requirements.
- Follow the 90-day look ahead schedule, daily work, and RFI schedules; liaise with relevant personnel to monitor planned and completed Welding, NDT, and Painting activities on-site and off-site, and undertake quality surveillance and witnessing according to approved ITPs.
- Verify the availability of latest and approved documents, drawings, qualification ID cards, and calibration certificates at the work location.
- Witness qualification and testing of Welding, NDT, WPHT procedures, RTRP, Painting, and Coating systems, as well as personnel qualifications, and sign off RFIs and qualification records.
- Conduct in-process, stage, and final inspection of Welding, NDT, and Painting activities, including RT film review, witnessing weld repairs, and reviewing completion for piping spools and test packs.
- Monitor weekly Welding and NDT status and welder performance.
- Monitor traceability and storage/preservation of tanks, piping, pipeline components, paints, and welding consumables as per manufacturer recommendations and approved procedures.
- Surveil on-site and off-site structural, piping, pipeline, and storage tank-related Welding, NDT, Painting, and Coating activities to identify nonconformances and assist contractors in corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide feedback on recurring quality observations or lapses and follow up on corrective actions to close out observations and NCRs.
- Ensure inspection, measuring, and testing equipment have valid calibration as per approved project procedures.
- Assist in review and/or approval of quality and construction documentation, including method statements, JHAs, QCPs, inspection and test plans, and MARs; attend quality walkthroughs.
- Monitor the performance of contractor, subcontractor, and third-party inspectors, providing support and guidance as needed.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, third parties, and the construction team.
- Implement and enforce quality management system requirements applicable to your function.
- Work on construction sites and in prevailing climatic conditions at least 80% of the time.
- Ensure your own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by business activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Sr. Welding Inspector Certification (CSWIP 3.2 / AWS-SCWI), Painting Inspector Certification (BGAS Grade-2 / NACE Level-2), and NDT Level-2 Certification in RT, MT, UT, and PT (ASNT/ACCP) are required. Equivalent international certifications are acceptable.
- API 570, API 936, RTRP, or other API Inspector Certifications are an advantage.
- Preferably formal training in QA/QC functional aspects and QMS internal auditing.
- 10 years' experience for graduate engineers or 15 years' experience for diploma holders in a similar position in the Oil & Gas sector. Experience in the GCC is desirable.
- Strong working knowledge in Welding, NDT, Heat Treatment, Painting, Coating, and associated quality, inspection, and testing requirements related to construction of major oil & gas process plants and cross-country pipelines.
- Familiarity with international codes, standards, and practices relevant to the job function (such as ASTM, API, AWS, ISO, BS EN, SSPC, NACE, IOGP, Shell DEP, MESC spec, etc.).
- Hands-on experience in qualification, testing, and performance monitoring of welding, NDT, heat treatment procedures, RTRP, painting, coating systems, and personnel qualifications.
- Experience in welding of different materials and metallurgies, including exotic materials (Inconel, DSS, SDSS, Ni, Cr, etc.) and welding processes.
