Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Lead to take responsibility for the delivery of a major data centre construction project. Working closely with the senior project leadership team, you will oversee the project across the full delivery lifecycle, with responsibility for programme performance, commercial control, construction coordination, quality, and safe execution. The position requires an experienced construction professional who can lead multidisciplinary teams, manage supply-chain partners, and maintain effective relationships with clients and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for project delivery, including programme, financial performance, quality, and construction objectives.
- Lead and coordinate contractors, specialist subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal project teams.
- Monitor the construction programme and identify activities or constraints that could impact key completion dates.
- Develop mitigation and recovery plans where programme risks or potential delays are identified.
- Assess contractor proposals, commercial submissions, and packages of work.
- Chair and participate in meetings with the client, project team, and other key stakeholders.
- Maintain oversight of project expenditure and identify issues that could affect forecast or final construction costs.
- Manage procurement activities and monitor the manufacture and delivery of critical and long-lead materials and equipment.
- Review contractor estimates, quotations, and cost submissions to ensure they are accurate and aligned with agreed scopes.
- Work with engineering and design teams to understand the commercial and programme implications of design development and project changes.
- Monitor the status and availability of equipment required to support the construction programme.
- Work alongside planning and project controls functions to maintain an accurate and achievable project schedule.
- Review commercial applications, supplier and contractor invoices, and payments in accordance with project requirements.
- Maintain clear communication between construction, engineering, commercial, planning, and client teams.
- Drive project performance and ensure agreed actions, deliverables, and milestones are achieved.
- Lead the project through completion, commissioning, and handover, ensuring all required records, documentation, warranties, and outstanding deliverables are completed.
Requirements
- At least 10 years' relevant construction/project delivery experience, ideally within large-scale or technically complex projects.
- Previous experience leading major construction projects or significant project packages.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and external delivery partners.
- Excellent organisational and time-management capabilities.
- Strong communicator who is comfortable operating with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Good commercial awareness with experience of budgets, forecasting, project costs, and financial controls.
- Experience managing contractors, subcontractors, and specialist vendors.
- Ability to interpret project programmes and understand the effect of critical activities on overall delivery.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment with challenging deadlines.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, together with relevant construction/project management systems.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and successful project delivery.
Work Schedule
- 3 Week Rotation:
- Week 1: Early morning flight to arrive on site no later than noon on Monday. (Monday 12pm - 4pm & Tuesday - Saturday 7am - 4pm)
- Week 2: Monday to Saturday (Monday - Saturday 7am - 4pm)
- Week 3: Monday to Wednesday (Monday - Tuesday 7am - 4pm & Wednesday 7am - 11:30am)
- Travel home Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
